Lance, the Cracker Barrel address is 955 Airport Blvd.

If you come up Hwy 55 from Apex you should:
-make a right on to Morrisville-Carpenter Rd,
-follow it util it intersects with Hwy 54 (Chapel Hill Road),
-make a left on Hwy 54 until you come to the Airport Blvd intersection,
-make a right at the traffic light and go down Airport Blvd and you'll see the Cracker Barrel on the left just before you get to the Outlet Mall.

We should be gathering there around 8:00 and leave by 9:00 for the caravan up to VIR. See you there.

Sounds good. If I can't borrow my MOM'S Miata that day. I will have to drive my truck, leave it at CB and see if I can bum a ride in Eric's FD.

I have a guy from work who just got his wife's MR2 back in road worthy condition and he will be joining us. It is a beautiful, well kept 2nd gen model.

As usual we'll do breakfast at the Morrisville CB and caravan up to VIR and get in line for the gate opening at Noon. If you enjoy driving you don't want to miss this. Last year we all drove back to Raleigh and ate dinner together. If I remember correctly you get one free picture of your car on the track and can buy any other pics of you and your car that you like. I know we have some FDs that need to get the kinks out and some FCs that need to open their throttles and blow out the carbon. FBs, RX3s and RX8s, of course, are more than welcome to join the fun.

Think of it as cheap thrills and as a Christmas present for you and your car. Who plans on joining us for this event?

Is this a lapping event or as Carl said parade laps???

They're fast parade laps behind a pace car, no passing. You'll go fast enought to have lots of fun, unless you're behind someone who can't handle the twisties... if so lay back and overtake. Make sure your tires and brakes are in order and if it's your first time there or you've only run standard parade laps have fun but be safe.

if you've never been on a track before, you will get owned when you go out there unless you have someone really really slow in front of you.

like I said in the other thread though, I'm probably not going if it's going to be wet out. the T2 will get no traction at all.

Billy,
When have you ever heard of full race speed laps for $25 bucks? If it's too good to be true it probably is. That was the case with the FD headlights I just bought

I hear that there is a chin motosports event that weekend. $450 entry fee for 2 days, pretty steep and there is a waiting list.

There are a few rules since they are letting anyone that contributes $25 to the Salvation Army on the track. One rule is you cannot pass anyone else that is on the track and the second rule is you have to pay the money before you're allow on the track. That's about it. But that said, I haven't seen anyone out there in the last 3 years able to keep up with the pace car. They will black flag you if you're slowing down the rest of the drivers and we should be able to get most of our group together in the same session. For a street car a 30 minute lap session is about all it needs at one time.

If you like driving fast, taking curves, pushing your car to the limit, and hanging out with other people that like what you like then you shouldn't miss this once a year event. Its not the same as parade laps at any other event and I don't remember anyone that has gone up for Holiday Laps coming back sorry they went and feelin' like they wasted most of the day purnt a lot of gas and rubber for no good reason.

But you shouldn't get on the track if your tires are slick, your brakes are worn out or you have some major mechanical problems to deal with.

Bring it on and make me a liar. I want to see someone challenge the pace car this year. Carl, you and Billy get on the track and show us what real drivers can do. I am serioius, I'd like to learn some driving techniques and the heel/toe trick and if y'all are willing to work with us, I know everyone will be eager to improve their driving. If you don't think Holiday Laps will be a lot of fun and a challenge then come up with us - I can guarantee teaching us new tricks WILL be a challenge. We'll see y'all over at the Cracker Barrel in Morrisville Friday morning.

Sounds good Bert. I'll be able to go if my mom will let me borrow her Miata that day. It's amazing what a well setup car and sticky tires can do, even on a street car. The rest is just hitting your marks and practice, practice, practice. I don't even want to admit how many times ive spun out at VIR.

The turn you really need to be careful on is turn 10, South Bend right at the top of the climbing esses. It's blind and if you carry too much speed through there you can roll the car over in the grass. That's where the most problems happens in the races. Some cars with a lot of downforce can go through there flatout from turn 5 to Oak Tree. I have to hit the brakes and let the car set, then turn in at 10. It can get a bit hairy.

Yeah Carl that is one for sure, especially at speed. To be honest it's a very long and complex track. As much fun as it is to drive it it can bite you in the *** if you don't watch it, even doing parade laps and more so at holiday laps. At speed is about 2 1/2 mins at some of the HPDE meets I've been to on it and that's hitting 120's on the front and 130s on the back. Even running 85-95 on those is faster than you think and then add in like Carl said some of the turns and elevation changes and you get the idea. Then again, some of you people followed me on a run in the dark... we're all gonna die!!!!
