Holiday Laps at Virginia Int'l Raceway

Just got work from one of the RRDI members that VIR has announced their Holiday Laps for 2005. This year they will be opening the track up on Friday and for a donation of $25 you'll be able to get on the track for a 30 minute session. The usual rules apply for public laps, no passing and they are led by a pace car. Neither of there presents a real handicap for some real fun unless you're a hard ball racer. Come join the fun and leave all your stredd on the track.

VIR Holiday Laps voted Best Use of a Rotary Machine by Car & Driven Mag

VIR's Holiday Laps has been selected again this year as "Best Use of a Rotary Powered Machine" by Car & Driven Magazine! This is a must do event for anyone that loves driving and has a rotary powered car that needs some highway miles and some track time.

If you qualify then come join the fun and the other good news is that it qualifies as stress releif therapy so a sick day from work or school is legit! Drivers come join the fun.

The DR, Doctor of Rotorology, says "take two Holiday Lap sessions and call me in the morning!"

December 9th is quickly approaching. Who is joining us for a great drive to Virginy, and some fun on one of America's best road courses. Johny will have Tiffany there and he will be posing for photos and autographs before the runs begin. He said pics are $25 each and if you want to be in the picture with Tifffany, their going for $50 autographed! So donation of one autographed picture to the Salvation Army will get you 2 runs at VIR and Johny will be able to make his Decmeber credit card payment! That's a win/win for everyone!

Speaking of December and bills, just remember that I have a bunch of RRDI T-shirts I need to unload. If you ordered on and haven't picked it up you need to do it next Saturday. That is especially true for those that still owe me some money and will be home for Thanksgiving, come out Saturday night and pick up your shirt(s)! I will have them at the RRDI.

The RRDI members will be leaving Raleigh for VIR on Friday morning around 9:00 o'clock. We'll meet for breakfast around 7:30 at the Cracker Barrel in Morrisville and then leave from Briar's Creek shopping center around 9:00. If you want to eat breakfast with us that's great, if you don't then be out in front of the Caribou Coffee Store at 8:30. Please fill up with gas before you get there and be ready to roll out for VIR by 8:30. The drive up is great and takes about an hour and 20 minutes from Raleigh. Any questions or suggestions, post'em here.

Hey Bert,
Count me in too for the VIR holiday laps. I'll meet you guys at Briar's Creek shopping center Friday morning. What store in the shopping center do you usually meet at? Also where is the Cracker Barrel located in Morrisville? That area changing so much its hard to keep track.

It looks like the RX8s might outnumber the RX7s going up to VIR. We'll meet around 7:30 at Cracker Barrel in Morrisville for Breakfast and stop over at Briar's Creek's Caribou Coffee Shop around 8:30 - 9:00 to pick up the rest of the caravan and leave for VIR as soon after 9:00 AM as we can. We'll head west on Hwy 70 to I-85, take a short hop on 85 north and then hit some fun back roads thru Bahama, over to 501 north to Roxboro. We'll meet Johny up at VIR when we arrive around 11:00.

Everyone going be sure to fill up with gas before you get to Briar's Creek. We'll top off in Roxboro and then head out to VIR with full tanks. Remember you can run as many lap sessions as you want, they require a $25 donation for each track session. Last year we ran 2-3 sessions and that was a full afternoon. Looks like we'll have 4 RX8s going up plus and about the same number of RX7s. It will be a great time and a lot of fun. We'll probably get back to Rawley after dark on Friday evening. Everyone be sure you've got good tires and your brakes are in good shape for the track.

See you Friday moring, and anyone else that is going post up here so that we know to expect you.

I HATE NORTH CAROLINA WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Weather forecasters are saying there is a chance of some winter weather in the Triangle region Thursday night.

The National Weather Service says that there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation Thursday night -- and that some of that precipition could be freezing rain.

Moisture approaching the area from the south and west later Thursday and Thursday night will encounter a shallow, chilly air mass at the surface, leading to the likelihood of cold rain developing and lasting into the mid to late morning hours on Friday, said WRAL Meteorologist Mike Moss.

Rainfall could be substantial again, potentially in the one half to one inch range, Moss said.

"Temperatures may also be borderline for wintry precipitation from around the Triangle area north and west, with the currently projected temperature structure favoring a mix of rain and freezing rain in that area, perhaps with some pockets of sleet," Moss said.

Toward the Virginia line and back toward the Triad area, there may be enough entrenched cold air for accumulations of ice, while deeper cold air toward the northern mountains and foothills could lead to snow developing there.

"Some of the particulars in terms of the speed, intensity and location of low pressure affecting the state remain difficult to pin down with confidence as yet, and the type and coverage of precipitation we receive will depend strongly on those factors," Moss said.<!--stopindex-->

Stay tuned to your favorite weather guesser, they have been know to change their minds. The weather channel's forecast for the Roxboro-Danville area calls for a 30% chance of rain/snow showers for Friday, highs in low 40s while Thursday looks like low 40s and a 10% chance of percip. Or you could say there is a 70% chance of no precip on Friday and cold air is good for the turbos. If its freezing rain on Thursday night and Friday morning we'll definitely call this thing off and hope VIR can reschedule just stay tuned and see what happens.

The Weather Channel this morning was indicating that there were AM rain and/or snow forecast for Friday. That was what happened last year, it was drizzling rain all morning and the track got wet and it was fun sliding around for the first session, until the track dried out. Tha light rain and the oil on the track made for some interesting driving. Keep checking on weather but probably won't know definitely until Friday morning for sure. Nic, at the most you'll just see rain between Goldsboro and Raleigh, we'll see what happens when we head north. Check this thread before you headout Friday but it looks like it will be cold with little or no rain by the time we get to VIR.

Yeah the forcast has changed a bazillion times. NWS now says 80% chance of "occational" showers with a high of 45. Its really been all over the place. Would be nice if they would make up their minds. I love it when weather people dont know whats going to happen!
