The VIR Holiday Laps is scheduled for Friday, 12/10, from Noon to 4:00PM. Its an opportunity to get some great track time for relatively very little money, and the fee may qualify for a tax deduction since it is a charitable donation! How 'bout that. It is the day before the first Drive-In date in December. Can you make it?

Article about Holiday Laps:

It is good practice for when you all step up to the plate, don a helmet, and come play with the big boys at speed with no pace car.

FYI - if by some freak accident that you get overzealous and somehow go off and hurt your car (I have seen a GT40 go off on parade laps at a vintage race weekend) - be warned, you are on a private circuit and your insurance does NOT cover damages.

BTW, tried to make it out to the GRR with Mike, however had family stuff crop up earlier that day and then later on had to help a friend out with a differential and it would have been 9:30 before I would have gotten out. Glad there was much fun had and no Wankel-powered vehicles were injured during the filming of the event.

Ashraf, in broad strokes what does the tech inspection include/require? It would be good info for those of us who have never been to a road track.

Tech isn't really NEEDED for parade laps, but it would be recommended...keep reading...mainly, your concern is no fluid leaks or major mechanical issues and teching a car generally keeps it reliable and nips potential problems BEFORE they leave you stranded. Same goes for my maintenance advice.

IMHO, a Track Tech DOES apply to good maintenance of ANY vehicle that is driven and not stored in a museum (hmm, I guess my FD doesn't need teching at this rate) lest your vehicle become a hazard. Some form of it is probably what BMW, Porsche, etc. do at certain service intervals for big $$$ (I know, b/c I have a relative with a BMW that was going to have the service done, and when they told me what it entailed, I could do most of it in less time for less $$$).

I more or less DID a quick tech on your car (brake fluid is a BIGGIE!) when you came out to the MSCCNC meeting and on the cars that I and other experienced MSCCNC members have looked over and commented at our Durham meets. However, pointing out mechanical deficiencies doesn't go over too well with some folks, as I have learned from doing so at the Raleigh meeting, so I now hold my tongue unless asked to scrutinize.

I would be glad to perform a quick unofficial tech inspection on anyone's cars that shows up for the MSCCNC meeting in December (or any MSCCNC meeting). Let me know in advance, I'll bring a few basic tools.

Thanks, for the info.

I think some people don't take criticism well.

I was thinking about taking the Fiero out to the Holiday Laps. I have an oil pan gasket the needs to be replaced before that, though.

Ashraf, sorry you couldn't make it. I was expecting some of the MSCCNC guys to show up and don't recall that anyone made it up to Bahama. There is some beautiful driving in that area. Fortunately all the rotaries came thru the event safely and without any major problems and I think all made it back home OK too! We did have the ASPCR out to insure all went well.

Grrnc 2005

Looks like the Grand Rotary Rally of North Carolina 2005 will be on Saturday August 6th. Details will be coming, maybe a new thread (GRRNC-2005) or something like that. Ideas still being tossed around but it looks like it might be held at VIR (Viginia International Raceway).
