Gainesville Road course test and tune
Looks like I'll be the first to post since leaving the track.....not surprised as I only have a 15min ride (doing the speed limit). Surpried at the actual turn out (not really), but typical of the ROTARY crowd, three second gens, two 3rd. gens. Nice to meet the CREW from St. Pete, very nice Ford V-8 powered drift car, glad you finally figured out how to drift it "on "the pavement. That last run was awsome !!!! Neil good to see you again, and Bill & Bill again I say what a pleasure it was to make your aquaintance. Thanks for the dogs and drinks. Will have to mke plans for a track day with BBQ here in G'ville in the near future.

Nearly forgot the two young gentlemen that drove all the way down from Georgia, sorry you didn't get to run (maybe next time) which should be next month.

It was great meeting you also, and I'm glad you got to run the last few laps
.Bill was beside himself when he rode in your car at the end. I am impressed with him in turning down your offer, because he knows how little experience driving he has. Alot of kids would have just gone ahead but Bill wants to get alot more experience first. He drove to the Oasis, where we switched, he was too tired to deal with the traffic in Stark.
I think next time, a new grill will be in the works. Much as I hate to retire this one, it just doesn't want to do the job any more. At least we got the dogs cooked tho!
I didn't catch the names of the guys in the Turbo II, or Killerspeed56 's name, But it is nice to put faces with cars! I didn't meet whoever it was in the red FD.
We got all of the last smokey drifts of the V8 FC on vid. Unfortunately it is not digital video, so I don't know how to copy it onto the computer. We have a couple of pics with the digital camera, and I will post what I can as soon as I get them uploaded.
The rain held off, and for the most part the clouds kept the heat down a little, but wew were attacked by the most lovebugs I have everseen. We came to the conclusion that they were coming out of the ground and were swarming only where we were standing, no matter where we moved.
All in all a great day, and we are really looking forward to the next one. I believe that I could have easily run over a hundred laps if I wanted too. As it was, I think that I only ran about 25 laps, taking long breaks in between, and this was only for the afternoon session
SOme pics coming soon.
Later,
Bill
Here are some pics, hope they come out ok, camera giving me a fit.
Cant go strait for a reason: very nice ride:
When the grill wouldn't fire off, I was offered this to cook on, I just couldn't bring myself to grill hot dogs on here no matter how hot it looks! LOL:
This nice original T II showed up just before lunch time:
Lunch time and rest time:
The gas regulator for the grill died, but some Matchlite Charcoal and we finally got cooking:
Next up, a couple of track pics. Sorry I only have an 8mg card so only could take about 9 pics total.
Later,
Bill

couple of track pics and other cars. Bill Jr. was in charge of the camera's so these are some of what caught his fancy.
Ford v8 powered FC was doing some awesome drifts at the end of the day. On one of the runs I did after one of his, I saw black marks from the start of the long sweeper all the way around to just past half way down the back strait. These two pics are on the last long rounder before the finish line.:
This lotus was pretty quick out of the hole, I think the guy was trying different shift points, every run was different:
Nice GTO, it seemed to get louder as the day went on:
And finally, me just having fun!
Next time it should be cooler and even more fun!!
Sorry we didn't get more pics.

Wouldn't you know it, first time I forgot my camera. Thanks for the compliments on the ride. Have to get the brakes done so I can beat on the car longer. Lunch sure hit the spot (glad James picked up the charcoal) We'll have to look at doing a racing/BBQ some time in the future. Keep checking back and keep in touch. I have to admitt I was a little surprised that Bill didn't want to drive it (it's a ***** cat to drive) perhaps he'll have enough experiance by the next time we meet.
I really want to get him out on the track, but I am hoping that they will let him ride with me a couple of laps to see what is involved I think that finding out how a car handles and reacts is one of the most important things about driving. He took the vid to school to show his buds who are always braggin about 'the rides they are gonna get'. I just want him to be able to drive his car. He isn't one for braggin (too much), but none of his friends believe that the vert is his. This is another reason I want him in it as much as possible.
I posted up a thread about when the next Jacksonville meet is, and they said the next one is in Gainesville. We'll be looking forward to coming out for that.
Who was in the red FD? Did he get any pics?
The rest of you guys who didn't make it, this was probly the best $35 that we have spent for fun. You really need to come out and try this!!!
Later,
Bill
PS: I had to go in and call my coworkers Posers, because they like to talk smack about how great their cars are, and that they would be showing up. Guess they couldn't hang, eh
LOL
