Emerald Isle or New Bern. Either one, Everything would be fairly accessable in New Bern, so that sounds good to me. What's everyone else think?

No offense to those who live there, but Craven County (New Bern, Havelock, etc), isn't exactly the most happening of places. Emerald Isle would be a GREAT place to have a meet, but there's not a whole lot to do in the off-season (trust me, I lived in Carteret county for half my life). Atlantic Beach wouldn't be bad, either, but has the same off-season problem.

Personally, I think it would be cool to meet in Morehead City on a Saturday morning, then take the ferry to Ocracoke, and cruise up the coast. You could visit the lighthouses and see the museum at Kill Devil Hills on the way. It would be an AWESOME weekend trip, especially on a 3-day weekend.

That's just me, though. And it would take some coordination, because the ferry is a 3-hour trip and requires reservations.

In lieu of that, I would probably vote Wilmington. There is a LOT to do down there, pretty much year-round. It would be a fair distance for those coming from the North, but you'd probably have a better turnout, and more fun. Greenville would be another good choice, I think. Not exactly the coast, but still in the East. And, of couse, ECU is there, which means there will ALWAYS be something to do.

Wait, don't I run a club in SOUTH Carolina

Ren,

I see your point, true there's not much happening in that area. It was just a suggestion, I am game for any other locations. I can do Emerald Isle, I have never been there though and wouldn't know my way around. It's only about 3 hours for me to drive to.

Hey 94Touring would you able to do something on the 7th or 8th of October? And what about everyone else, what dates are you available?

I would love to see a cruise to the OBX (my home) but that will have to wait till next summer I'm sure. Come on guys need some more input on this to make it a success. Ren, come down next year to the ole OBX.

Tony

I work full time, so weekends only for me. What kind of a head count do we have so far? Whats the age range of everybody? I like the idea of bbq and beer, but I know not everyone is old enough to drink....or get away with it.

Na, not everyone is old enough to drink. A couple of the guys are still in school. I am all for a BBQ but if we do that I guess we will have to meet at someone's house, and everyone bring something. Lets start planning for the weekend of the 7th and 8th. Can everyone else do anything that weekend?

yeah, that weekend in October sounds good to me (I'm 16, and dont drink, but I dont care if you guys do and my Dad doesnt care either, that is...if you're not gonna get drunk, but I"m sure you wont since we are about the cars here)

The offseason thing is a good point about the beaches...but i'm not too worried about having things to do, I plan on gawking over y'alls cars the entire day. I probably will even forget to eat, I'll be ODed on RX-7's.

We do need a head count...i SHOULD be in, if my dad cant come with me, maybe my parents would be satisfied with me just following Dan (94Touring) up there. We'll figure it out, they'll let me come.

im 17, and i could do emerald isle b/c as i said before my family has a beach house. let me just let everyone know that because of my age we wouldnt be able to have the meeting there. also for whoever said they dont know their way around emerald isle...basically all it is is a long straight island with one main street, its not terribly hard to navigate. but i should be in as long as its close

Hey, if you have the meeting at Emerald Isle, you do have the Happy Dolphin (or whatever the hell the name is) mini-golf course available to you. Well, technically that's in Cape Carteret. There are a few mini-golf type places and parks all up and down Bogue Banks from Emerald Isle to Atlantic Beach.

Come to think of it, there's a couple really good places with large parking lots that you could have a meet. I can't remember the name of the place I'm thinking of right now, but it's right on the waterfront, and there's a couple small dives there. There are a couple classier places, too.

You know, instead of a whole-day OBX cruise, a cruise from EI to AB wouldn't be too bad an idea. It would take about an hour to do, or you could just stop at places along the way. No real opportunity to make any blasts down the road, though, the cops are real bad there. It'd have to be just a cruise. I think it would be cool to say meet in EI in the morning, do lunch there, then cruise to AB and maybe go see Fort Macon. Actually, that would probably be a GREAT place to have a meet. It's not hard to find, it's right at the AB end of Hwy 58.

In the evening, for those who wanted to see the street scene (non-existent in Carteret County), you could take a trip down to Jacksonville/Camp Lejeune. Hwy 24 between Swansboro and Jacksonville has plenty of wide-open, not-heavily-monitored 4-lane, allowing lots of opportunity to play Speed Racer. For those who prefer a jaunt through the twisties, take a left (from EI direction) at the light before the Burger King in Swansboro, and enjoy. It takes you to Bear Creek Road, and both it and the road leading to it (can't remember the name) are primo sports car roads. That will exit onto 172, which runs through the base, or you can just turn around and have another go at it. Personally, for newbies, I would take that road in daylight hours, as there are a couple spots you wouldn't want to meet another car at. And it does get busy at times.

Stephen, who said you can't have the meeting at your parents' place? I mean, as long as there's someone over 21 there, and the house is in your family's name, I really don't think it would be a problem. At worst, you may have to have one of your parents there. Either way, though, to avoid possible po-po involvement, and for liability purposes, I would say that the policy should be no alcohol. That's the way our meetings go, and the same goes for most organized clubs I've been in.

Now, I can understand if you can't have a meeting there based on parking space. Not a whole lot of that going on in that town.

Tony, I will mos' def' be there next year for a cruise down the OBX. Hell, I might come down some weekend just for the hell of it. I love the NC coast.

I'm so stoked about this event, and it doesn't make any damn sense. Not like I'm gonna be there. ****! Come on, June '03!

OK guys it looks like Emerald Isle is the place, and on the weekend of October 5th and 6th. As of right now I cant do anything on the 6th I have to work, but I can be in Emerald Isle anytime on the 5th. We can meet up early in the morning and spend the whole day hanging out and gawking at each others cars. I can be there in 3 hours from my house. So what's our headcount as of now?

As far as the alcohol thing I doubt there will be any involved, I won't drink being in a unfamiliar place. Hey Stephen since you know your way around EI where should we meet at? What time would you guys want to meet up? Looks like this thing as just about ready to go, man this is cool.

Emerald Isle on the 5th sounds good to me. I think we should meet at like 10 or 11, it should take me about 2-2½ hours to get there. (I'll be bringing my Dad with me, most likely...a newbie to the import scene, but a car enthusiast none the less.)

Cool, I'm glad this is coming together. If you have any friends into the import scene invite them to come along to. Yeah I was thinking in that time range also, I'll get there around 10 so I can ride around and check out the area.

just talked to my parents. its highly unlikely that we will be able to go to my beach house on account of them not being there. they arent too crazy about me being a couple of hours away with people i really dont know. my parents will both be attending a wedding that day in fayetteville which my dad 's business is also catering. but they did say i could roll down to wherever we are meeting and chill for the day. why we cant just hang out at our place i dont know, but the way they made it sound im lucky just to be able to go. so who's in?

Don't worry about the house thing. That aint no big deal. As long as we can all meet up, hang out, go out to eat, cruise around. Either one of those places sounds good to me to meet at. Hey guys what do you all think? October 5th it's a Saturday, meet in Emerald Isle at the golfin dolfin place, and go from there. I want this to be a success, and maybe even bigger and better next year.

Even if you don't have any friends with cars worth bringing still bring them along for the ride. Like I said before though I won't even be in RX7, I'll be in my truck, but a few guys from here may come if I can talk them into it (BIG MAYBE). So so far the head count isn't looking to be to big. But we still have time to get everyone to post whether they can come or not.

My AOL IM is EMTtony if any of you see me on
