Houpty, your avatar needs some attention. The engine on the left is a 'radial' engine, not rotary.

You have been mislead, it is indeed a rotary engine. The rotary engine was invented before Wankel was even born. The entire crankcase rotates upon a fixed crankshaft like an enormous flywheel. So Wankel invented an entirely new engine not like the rotaries that were nearly dated by that time. So for the sake of clarity and out of respect for the inventor don't you think we should simply call it the Wankel engine/Wankel rotary engine that it is? There is also a radial engine where the case is fixed and the shaft rotates.

No, I haven't been misled, I didn't know there was an engine that rotates around a fixed crank. There is a difference between 'misguided' and 'ignorant'.

Now, that makes no sence. Out of respect to the inventor, why don't we call the telephone the Bell-o-matic? Why aren't cars called benzes? Why is Microsoft's browser not called the Al Gore Explorer?

We do call it the deci-Bel(l)! One-tenth of an Alexander Graham Bell unit. dB. Capital B for Bell.

Besides you want to tell people that your pneumatic impact gun has a rotary in it? It is turned into too much of a general term. I hear certain foreign people call Woodruff keys, half-moon key; and Phillips screwdrivers, plus drivers. Doing things out of disrespect, now that does not make any sense.

Do some research and you will see that the term Wankel engine and Wankel rotary engine abound. It is more precise and meaningful.

But Bell didn't invent the 'bel' unit, it's just a quantification of something that already exsited.

I've done plenty of research on the rotary... no disrespect, but this is an RX7 forum, so I would assume everyone here knows that I'm talking about the obsolute Wankel rotary and not the obsolute piston rotary. I've found all I need to know to conclude that every RX7 I've owned has ended up de-Wankeled.

Cheers

Whenever you guys come up with a date, post it please. The sooner the better. I know I have to put in to have it off, depending on when his days off fall Reese may have to as well.
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone early, also.

An interesting website on engines, airplanes or not, that I came across in Hemmings Motor News magazine. Here is a link for animation on a rotary engine.
http://www.animatedengines.com/gnome.shtml
Truly has no reciprocating pistons. There is also a link on the left for Wankel engines. Lots of interesting information.

PS. Don't bother saying anything about Gnome because it was just one type of design for the rotary.

Someone mentioned BBQ and asking for a host. I offered since I live on a culdesac with no houses in front plus a nice size yard. I'm game if everyone else is. I have only met one person on here and that is Reese many years ago. But I'm down for hosting the BBQ with the cooperation (pot luck) of those attending.
