Go to www.sfldrifters.com

It is a site dedicated to drifting and has a very good setup on Who/What/Where/When/How when it comes to events and things like that. Unfortunately many of the people on the forum live in South FL but there are also people that dwell in WPB and further North.

I own a Rx-7 Vert and you wont be able to drift or take it to ANY racing event without some kind of roll bar. Some Tracks allow it, others don't, but I do stress the fact that you NEED A ROLL BAR at least. It has nothing to do with increasing the rigidity of the vehicle (even though it will) it is all about YOUR SAFETY. Some of us know what happened to Hurleysurf24. I know him personally, he could have had a very fatal accident but fortunately walked away from his flipped vert.

Also, we are all Rx-7 owners, we are already broke. Be prepared to spend stupid amounts of money buying tires, changing your oil more frequently, replacing rims, and possibly suspension parts, and don't forget about the motor. I apologize if I sound like I'm trying to bring you down or bash on you, but I am involved with the SFLdrifter community and know the expenses of drifting. (I have replaced my suspension 2 times from running into curbs and have replaced 2 sets of rims.) It's fun to slide and all but it has a price that I can barely afford to pay :[

Check out SFLDrifters and goodluck.

I'm trying to impart some of the motorsports wisdom that I've gained over the years and help the guy out. Sorry if you don't like my tone, but the bottom line is that an inexperienced driver has no business trying to drift. He needs to go to HPDE type events and get a firm handle on the right way to drive, and once he does, it will help him immensely in his drifting endeavors.
I couldn't agree more. I started track racing at a young age, and one of the first things I do when I get a new car is take it to an AutoX event. I recommend anybody do this. Or "Street Survival" It lets you know the exact limit of your car and what its capable of. Which will save you in so many daily situations. And it also gets that urge to haul ***** out of my system. So I don't do it on public roads, I'm surprised more people don't do it.

But it just pisses me off when people, especially on internet forums, come out and bash people for liking something. Some people love drag, some love LeMans, and some people (mainly low IQ people) love NASCAR. To each his own, so IMO, he came out asking to go to events, showing he wants to do it the right way. Better than when I was a teen and hauling *** on mountain passes and parking lots!

So I think we're on the same page, so word. Its just we all have a love for sevens, so why hate?

I'm sorry but the number of cars you have owned does not mean anything to me. Though I don't know what you are capable of behind the wheel, it really means nothing to me... There are some people I know who have owned twice as many cars as I, and I still would never hand them the keys to my car... Just my 2cents...

Well, the next drift even t nearest you (that I know of) is at Fairgrounds in WPB on Nov.1st

Also, this would be a bit of a drive is the Countlyline Drift Event and Countyline Dragway on Oct 5th. I will be attending this event.

Thats funny they have ride-a-longs. Some of my friends that I take drifting, scream there frickin heads off! Its really funny, but it can be quite distracting. Especially when I don't know the person, I'd prob tell them immediately, don't yell or I'll slap you!!!

I actually live about 8 miles away from Countyline Dragway.

Calling the track is the best way to inquire about drifting events near you. If the track wont agree to host and event, you can always find a nice big parking lot and have the owner rent it out to you and some others :P Of course if it's on private property the police can't touch you :]

Haha, reminds me of a story, one of my buddies works for Masterdrive and is good friends with the owner. So after work one day, they hit me up and ask me to come over, help them set up a drift course and we'd hit it up. So I roll over, set up the track (which was sick by the way) And we were probably sliding around for less than twenty minutes, when two cop cars come flyin in the "private lot." I'm in the middle of sliding around these S corners, and one of stops directly in front of me! I almost slid into him, cause I was frickin sideways, I was pissed.... well he was more pissed! Came out of the car, with his hand on his gun, screaming, get out of the car, get out of the car. I'm in shock thinkin, is this guy serious! He tells me to put my hands on the hood, then asks me to get my license and registration. I ask him, how the hell can I get my registration when you tell me to put my hands on the hood! At this time the Masterdrive owner walks up and talks to the cops for a couple minutes.

He walked back up to me, and said, have a nice day. Then drove off the lot, and watched us hit up the track for like thirty more minutes. It was classic! I wanted to shoot myself for not having a camera! I want a pic of my car drifting with a cop in the backround, pissed he can't do anything. Awww, good times!!

lots of people will flag drifting as gay and stupid, 99% of the people on here will. I for 1 like it and would do it if funds allowed. i prefer turns (griping or drifting) than going in a straight line for 13 or less seconds. I still drag but its not something that interests me like the others do, like drifting dont interest others. There is a drifting section you can go to on this fourm.. also you can go to SFLDrifters.com they have lists of events all around florida.
