Why not try the local section instead of putting this in the technical section?

I'd recommend learning to drive the car correctly the right way at speed before you try to drive it sideways.

he is going about it the right way though looking for tracks and sanctioned events. Keeps him from "learning" on the street.

haha wow so much **** slinging goin on.

a mod will move this to the SE section and you might get a good answer.

and tyler....you need to chill dude. ya he could be an indy driver or he could be an undercover cop looking to bust some "drifters" the fact is yes he needs to learn his car before learning to drift. everyone needs to learn their car. Period.

to the OP i suggest you get out and do some autox racing first. thats one of the best ways to learn how your car reacts to hard driving.

A pro driver would have the knowledge and resources ready to hand, and wouldn't be asking in the wrong section of the RX-7 board. His style of language also indicates that he's pretty young, and lately as drifting gets popular there has been a huge influx of people who think it's awesome and want to do it, but have no high performance driving experience and end up smashing their cars. I'm trying to impart some of the motorsports wisdom that I've gained over the years and help the guy out. Sorry if you don't like my tone, but the bottom line is that an inexperienced driver has no business trying to drift. He needs to go to HPDE type events and get a firm handle on the right way to drive, and once he does, it will help him immensely in his drifting endeavors.

Yeah but what would be the point of goin to a track where people are drifting at?? You cant give out wreckless driving tickets to people sliding on a track.

Nope, i dont see it as a sport, more of a hobby, how good a drift is is subjective to the viewer. Its just an exhubition of power, With kits and wings that are doing absolutely nothing as such low speeds and sideways for that matter.

drifting is as much of a sport as any other type of racing. mind you, theres two types of drift races. Show drifting (making the "over dramatic" turns) and race drifting (auto-x with higher speed turns). until you understand the concept, dont bash.

Drifting is fun to watch, I don't go out of my way to see it but I always try to catch it when it's going on at an event I'm at. Think of it as Racing : Drifting :: Hockey : Figure Skating

My point in my previous comment was that in the drifting participant/fanbase pool there are lots of ricers and FATF knuckleheads. Think of the crowd that was really into drag racing honda civics about 8-10 years ago when that was cool.

Apparently Time Attack (It's like Time Trials but it's JDM yo) is where that crowd is heading next.
