cracked air charge valve hose help
Hey guys, I spent the day working on getting my new DP installed and along the way I broke a few hoses as they were very dry and hard. The hoses in question were..
1. The 90 degree elbow (silicon?) hose that is on the backside of the Charge Relief Valve
2. The end of the hose that runs from the Air Bypass Valve to the Y-Pipe
3. The couplers that attach to the top of the Y-Pipe and to the accordion hose that runs into the air box.
Although I haven't checked the rest of the hoses in that general area I'm guessing they are most likely the same way. Will a hose kit have these specific pieces or will I need to get them elsewhere?
Also, If for some reason I am not feeling up to the task of replacing all of the vacuum hoses can anyone recommend a good mechanic or shop that can do this job for a reasonable price?
Any help on either of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Dan,
The hoses coming from the turbos to the Charge relief valve and the BOV ( air bypass valve) are "formed" rubber hose. You can use hose from the auto store if desired but it will not be as "neat" of a bend. Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda is the man for FD parts(1-888-533-3400) He has most everything in stock.
A vaccum hose kit will give you the needed length of hose to do a hose job. I can do the hose jobs without issue as I have done loads of them in the past.I come to Ga often and can plan somethingout to help you.( I charge a tank of gas and some chicken nuggets) Or, Crit and Cletus( tim) have done Tim's hoses before Ibelieve. They can offer some local assistance maybe. Whomever does it make sure you label EVERY hose and only change 1 at a time Don't confuse the order and where they go.
I will say that when you do the hoses, you MUST!! replace the Fuel pressure Dampner( FPD) on the primary fuel rail. They are the main culprit of engine fires in the FD. REPLACE it!
Let me know, and if you are at the OGTA meet in April I can talk more there.

We did a few of my hoses, but mainly we were after my fuel pulsation damper. I cannot stress the importance of what Dave said enough. If you are doing the hose job, you are already to the pulsation damper. Spend the $70ish now for it. It is a lot of labor to get back to it. I think having it done is close to a grand at a shop.
I'm not sure how much dealing with my car soured Crit on the experience of working on the FD. I'm willing to provide assistance, but to be honest I'm not exactly comfortable working on someone else's car on that job, due to the fragility of the parts involved (be very careful with the solenoids).
Dave I'm sure would be a great assistance. He has been more hands on with the FD than I was with mine (most reliable car I ever owned oddly). He knows the cars well.
If you are thinking about a shop, well, Mazcare has always done outstanding work. However, their quotes can sometimes be off from the actual bill. It's hit and miss with that. I would guess they would charge over a bit over a grand to do that work.

Nah, not soured. I still remember how much fun they are to drive. It's definitely a pain in the ***, though. I'd also recommend either putting new molded vacuum hoses or just some simple black silicone hoses on the rat's nest while you're there. It really is enough work that there's no reason to leave an old vacuum hose or Pulsation Damper in there.

The convinience of getting the kits is that they have all the different sizez and more than enough of each to do the entire job.
When I had my shop in Hawaii, I was charging 350 to do a hose job. And that was a great deal compared to the dealer( over 1k) and they would always screw up the order and the boost patterns were always wrong. Lots of fun retracing those steps.
If you wanted to gather the hose kit and FPD, I think I will be down for a race weekend soon.( to watch) Which is a couple of days and plenty of time to complete a hose job. Like I said, nuggets and an intoxicant of your choice and I am covered

Damn right!! A 20 piece and some fries and beer and I am set. It can be done in a day taking our time and labeling everything and beiing very gentle with all the solenoids. That is where the big chunk of $$ is coming from I think when shops do the job. I think they just replace all the solenoids instead of just be carefull.
Also a good time to do any block-off plates etc. if desired. Everything is accesible.
Let me know if you are intrested. I am not going to make it down tomorrow for the OGTA meet. However I am coming down for the MITTY at Road Atlanta. That is April 29th-May2nd.
I can help you thru it then if you wanted. Just grab a new FPD from your parts supllier( Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda listed earlier) and a good silicon hose kit...and the nuggets
