That happened to mine, which didn't burn too long. Burn't about a foot of engine harness and had to replace the oil line.

actually i just now have been able to really look at it was able to clean up the oil and see really didnt do any damage i was lucky... i had heatwrapped the entire wiring harness lol incase something of the sort ever happned all it did really was melt the smaller wires that were left hanging out... which should be somewhat of an easy fix and put almost everything in the engine bay black but tommorow or sometimes as im tired of rushing threw things im gonna pressure clean the entire engine bay and just fix it should be fine...

ill try my best to make it to the meet still but not gonna hurry myself....

So really, with a car smoking oil (since you stated you knew it had an oil leak), you didnt stop at a parking lot to take a look and continued to try and race and then blame/complain about the car for crapping out on ya.

the leak was little droplets i knew where it was coming from dont think im trying to say its the cars fault im not saying that i still love my car no matter what the case is... i had showed up at murrays speed and custom people who sold me the braided line asking them if they could see what was up he said to take it home take the line off and hed remake it for me so it all happned on the process of my way home.... my complaining is ranting but its ok every rx7 owner goes threw it

In that case, just another case of rotary bad luck from what it sounds like. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad and you'll be back on the road soon.

Kudo's on the work ethic. Usually when I'm disappointed about one of my 7's, it'll sit until I've decided I've cooled off enough to work on it again.
