so yeah, im down for just cruising, saving gas and enjoying the trip.

btw... i will probably invest in a bra cover for the front of my FC for this and depending on when we do this i think others should look into this as well. lol.

a mixture of cell phone and camera pics i have from my trips:
bra= fucked up front end. it will rub and chafe the paint away, i wouldnt recomend getting one of those. bugs are alot cheaper to get off.

tray, eli, and gianny if you guys need any help lmk.

I would be down, but it depends on what the firm date is. My luck, whatever weekend you have planned, I'll have duty in the middle of it. If not, I'd join in fo' sho! Not sure of the REPU will be up by then, so I'll either take the 50.2 hp car (for those who know what I'm talking about), or one of my Galants (probably the one with the Teins).

I do agree, though, that traffic will be a problem at that time of year. There's no way you'll keep a big group together. Also, you can bet the Rangers will be out making money for the park (tickets) during their peak traffic times, so don't even think about speeding.

I've been to either Skyline Drive or the BRP for each of the last 5 years, and one multiple occasions some years. Always a nice retreat from the hectic life at home.

The North Carolina-Virginia border is nice, My wife's family lives in that area (Sparta, NC). The leafs should definitely be a nice color in that time frame also depending on the weather and time certain outlooks will be closed and you will have to park further away from them to walk to them (not sure if you plan to stop). Also wildlife is all over the place in the fall especially from dusk to dawn. The deer tend to jump from over the guard rails and dash into the road so be careful lol. There is a ton of nice little driving areas throughout Alleghany county should you need to stop and get something to eat or fuel up (not many choices though). If you have any question about the NC/VA border area of the blue ridge ask and i will try to help.

Ok, date set to Oct 17th - 20th. I know this isn't a good weekend for everyone, but we all live different lives and have things going on at different times. I'm sorry if you will miss this because of the weekend, and sorry for the short notice on planning. Hopefully this is a big hit and we will do it again next year, hopefully 6 months after DGRR. I will start working on a website this weekend.

Also, I have been considering the whole traffic thing. There will be alot of tourist and hopefully alot of us. Most of the over looks are designed for maybe 10 cars at best. I have been thinking that we would all start together and have groups, what ever they are. And instead of one large pack, we all move up the parkway in our smaller groups. Each group stopping when it and where it wants. The other idea is to have "check points" along the way, especially in the evening so we can attempt to get the whole lot of us together, possibly for dinner Saturday evening, or breakfast Sunday morning. I know one that i definally will be pushing for is a stop at the top of Mount Mitchell to see if we can get the parking lot filled with rx7s. Might be listed as something like "Attempt to take over Mount Mitchell, Saturday 9 - 10 am"

Doing this would give everyone more flexiblity in the pace they go and where they stop for pictures. Also, it breaks up the planning a little bit. Gianny, Eli, and myself can handle planning the over all weekend, finding hotels to suggest to people and suggested stops, but each person's trip on the parkway is left to them. I don't want to look back and say "well, i wanted to stop here, so we didn't make it to that place..." So you can be driving along and seeing different groups along the way, stop and chat and not be held to much of a time schedule.

What do people think? I guess my view is that this is more like if we rented out an amusement park for a day, we're all there, but not all in line for the same ride at the same time...

Masin, thanx for the offer to help, if we need anything from you, we will let u know...might need u for something coming up soon...

Only thing thats keeping me from being "in" is I don't know when Lyle is coming back from Iraq. He'll already be in VA with our parents. All they will tell him is that his leave is "Sometime in October". It'll be cool if it syncs with this trip up to VA! If not, maybe i'll meet up with some of y'all on the way back or something. So, sign me up under a "maybe".

Good, glad to see you can make it. The other day when I said your car wasnt as loud as it was before, I might have been wrong. You where drowning out my car in the tunnel, and my **** is pretty loud

Skylance: Hope it works out just right! Im sure he will be overjoyed to be back on American soil.

Just thought I would send this back to the top! 2 months from today, we need to do this damn thang. Im going to post a similar thread in the RX8Club and see what kind of interest can be spawned. Apparently, Gianni and Tray are going to run the BRP today and get an idea of what kind of times were looking at.

If you all do make it up to the top of Skyline Drive in VA. I would be in for meeting up during the Sunday Drive.

we are considering not going much past boone for this trip now...originally driving the whole parkway was the idea, but after the test run this past weekend, there wasn't much "fun" driving in VA...

again, we aren't looking to haul a$$ on this trip, but even the over looks weren't that spectacular...and the drive pretty much became boring. We started to feel like we were just one some back road, seeing houses left and right in a few places...we couldn't even stand to make it past Roanoke

Yea, the VA side was drooling-ly boring! No joke, I've been on funner country back roads here in SC then the Parkway in the VA side! There was nothing special about the Parkway in VA. Any of you guys who are familiar with Hwy 11 just off of I-26 heading West. Well, BRP in VA is almost as good as that...

Actually the reason I said “funner” was so you southern boys could comprehend the point that I was trying to articulate . After living here for so long I’ve resigned myself to try to lower myself to that level. I however, will not subject myself to saying the following: aint, borrie (instead of borrowed)

I do apologies, I did not think you guys would understand the phrase: more fun, or more entertaining, pleasurable, etc. I thought it was too many syllables for you guys.
