Any Rotary Fans Near Chapel Hill, NC
Any Rotary Fans Near Chapel Hill, NC
I just moved to Chapel Hill, NC. I am just trying to get adjusted out here and see who's around with hobbies like mine. I've got my '73 RX3 here now with Cosmo 13BREW, Microtech and TII/GSL-SE brakes. Where's the good shops? Where's a good wrecking yard?
Give a shout,
D.

Welcome to Blue Heaven! I grew up in Chapel Hill then went to school at NC State and they wouldn't let me enter the city limits once I graduated. So I moved all over the Southeast and finally settled down in Wake Forest, NC just north of Raleigh. I do sneak in to Chapel Hill occasionally to see family but try to avoid campus at all costs.
We're having a Drive-In this coming Saturday and you are welcome to join us if you can make it over. Just take I-40 east, get off at the I-540 exit, and take the SIx Forks Rd exit and turn right, go to second traffic light on SIx Forks Rd and make a right onto Strickland Road, the turn left, at the next traffic light, into the Char Grill.
The Mazda Sports Car Club of NC meets on the first Thursday each month out in RTP. I think they have some rotary owners as well as Miata and MX3 drivers.
There are also some rotary owners west of Chapel Hill in the Burlington/Mebane/Greensboro area as well.

Again thanks, and come when you can. About the best tuning shop in NC is Rotor Sports Racing in Kannapolis which is located on I-85 just north of Charlotte. I'll bet its been awhile since they've had an RX3 or Cosmo engine in the shop. They are on the web at www.RotorSportsRacing.com if you want to check'em out.
Thanks for the shop recomendation. I'll check it out.
I did get it to start this morning. I trimmed Idle fuel back at 0", 5", 10" ~15-20percent. Started and ran on 1 rotor. I held the car at a fast idle and adjusted the operating load point down a bit until it cleaned up. Then I let it idle and reset a good idle mixture. Foulded plugs don't seem to be very durable against fouling again. So, I will stick the plan and change the plugs, replace the trailing ignitor and add a leading MSD.
I really need to get a bung on the car so I can use my wide band and see what's going on. I will definity want a dyno certified fine tune after I reinstall the turbo.

On my way out here I stopped in Ashville for a day. I saw a second gen running slicks and skinnies with what sounded like a Chevy 8 in it. This LT1 swap is picking up momentum isn't it.

LT-1, LS1, just chevy v8...the swaps are becoming popular. Sports Compact Cars did an article on an LS1 FD. My g/fs car is slated to get an LS1 one in it when we have the money (right now trying to sell the dead rotary out of it...) I'm back to working on my 383 build for my FD.
