Air Shows & Car Shows in Eastern NC and Virginia

Just wanted to remind everyone that this coming weekend the RRDI has a road trip scheduled to go up to Oceana NAS for the Air Show and Blue Angels performances. The show starts on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM and the Blue Angels are scheduled to fly at 3:00 PM so we should be able to make it back for the RRDI Saturday night. They will also be doing a repeat show on Sunday for those that can't make it up on Saturday. I have invited the Hampton Roads/Norfolk/Va. Beach rotary group to join us but haven't seen a reply or gotten a PM from anyone.

Anyone want to step up for the Sunday road trip up there? It is about a 3 - 3.5 hour drive up to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Need to hear from you if you want to join the rotary parade up from Raleigh to Norfolk/Va. Beach on Saturday or Sunday.

Also next month the Thunder Birds are flying at Seymour Johnson AFB on Sunday, October 15. The RRDI is also planning a road trip to Goldsboro for that event as well. It'd be great to meet the rotary owners from Jacksonville-Fayetteville-Goldsboro areas at that show.

Also coming back down east in November for the Brits and Battleship Car Show in Wilmington on the first weekend in November. It is held at the USS North Carolina Memorial on the banks of the Cape Fear River. Here is one photo from last year's show:

I am definitely driving up. We might have some Virginia rotary owners meet us. I hope we can get a few more RRDI people to drive up but will have to wait and C. I have a pretty good map and driving directions from the OceanaAirShow website. At least you and I will be representing the RRDI.

I'm not a big fan of air show's. If I want to see a bunch of planes in the air, I can stare out my back door. I live right by Langley. No idea if any of the other guys are interested.

I checked the posts I put up on the NE RX7 forum and no one from the Virginia groups has indicated they'll be coming to Oceana and nobody except us from the RRDI has committed to going up on Saturday or Sunday. Just you and me Bobby and I am not going to make it. The last few days I've noticed a bad vibration in the GTU's drive train and if that wasn't bad enough, I found one of my dogs pretty banged up this morning. I am going to have to take him to the vet on Saturday for an exam. I am going to take the car to a local tire place on Saturday and get the tires rotated and balanced and have them check the drive train while its up on a lift, could be something loose, bad balance on one or more wheels, a bad u-joint or tranny problems. Hopefully next year the Blue Angels will be appeaing at one of the NC marine installations.

Sorry man, every year something comes between me and the Blue Angels. Hope you can make it up either Saturday or Sunday.

Thank you Bobby. Got my tires rotated this afternoon at Ronnie White's Tires up in Youngsville and that helped the drive train vibration some but they've still got the front end alignment to do tomorrow and I'm going to go up while its on a lift and get them to check the fluid levels for my differential and tranny and check the U-joints and hubs for wear or a potential cause of the vibes. The car is 17 years old and has 140 K miles so something's got to happen every now and again.

I will be at the RRDI tomorrow night for sure. Hope to see everybody there.

Remember Saturday night at the Char Grill, we start the gathering between 5:30 & 6:00 PM. That's 1730 - 1800 for you military heroes. Eric where are you ending up this weekend, Deals Gap, Raleigh, or Fayetteville? When we get to see your tricked out rotary mobile?

Well, I managed to make it to the air show on saturday. Great great show. I was told by some friends of mine who attend air shows all the time (the couple at the end of my photo set) that this one was very good compared to most. Good start for air shows for me then . Spoild the first time out hahaha. There were planes (obviously), parachutters, a jet truck, an old school car show, some air acrobatics, and a night show where there was an afterburner fly by and more parachutters but this time wearing glow sticks (batteries were dead so I didn't get any photo's of these guys). Overall, we had a great time. Photo's ensue.
