Why not to drive like an idiot - Video link

Here is a video from about 6 months ago. I got in an accident being a dumbass on the freeway back in April. Needless to say, I am very cautious on how I drive at this point. I've owned the car for over 2 years, and this was my first accident (ever).

I thought people should see the damage to get an idea of what can happen if you decide to go for a little joyride and let it get out of hand.

Word to the wise - save the hauling *** for the track... if you want to have the bigger dick, prove it where your life and someone elses isn't in jeapordy. I am thankful to get out of this without a scratch, as is my girlfriend. The FD only see's high speed on the track now... not on the highway.

My FD is all fixed now, but here is a list of the damage. The video is 17MB and just shows the front end of the car.

-Front End Damage
-Lower Control Arm (Drivers Side) Bent
-Trashed 18" Racing Hart Type C Front Rim
-Smashed APexi GT Exhaust Muffer
-Trashed passenger Side Headlight
-Trashed Passenger Side Fender
-Blew 13k mile engine
-Trashed TD08 Turbo Exhaust Side
-Bent Stock Hood
-Trashed Stock Rear Bumper

Enjoy

The video is webhosted, so it shouldn't be very long.. 17mb was the original file size, this one is a bit shorter.

3 spins, front end hit the center median, spun all the way across the freeway, rear end hit the offramp median, spun around and landed on the offramp facing the freeway.

Got cutoff, had to swerve over 2 lanes to avoid hitting someone, going to fast to keep traction - too sharp of a turn.

As for the coolant problem - sure did, it was the little metal spacer that offsets the waterpump for when you use a gasket. The gasket wasn't there... so it was spraying out of the side.

I think I chipped a seal from the accident, and the motor blew just drivin around normally later. But it was probably the overboosting (24psi) on pump gas. My spring was too stiff, so I went with a 10psi spring, and a working boost controller =P

Thank God you were alright. Me not so lucky. I was in intensive care for 3 days and in the hospital for three weeks after wrecking my old FD. On the highway doing the speed limit. What kind of rim and tire set-up were you running? Hopefully not stock. These cars are scary w/ stock rims w/ anything pushing over 300rwhp. Spirited driving that is...

What is wrong with stock rims and 300+ hp?

I had to go back to the stock rim setup since I damanged my 18's.

I had 18X10's in the rear running 285/30, and 18X9 in the front running 225/35.

Now I am running 245/45/16 all the way around until I can get some wide 17's or 18's.

Glad you're ok.. .that sounds like quite the experience. Good to hear that you're still around though.

I had my stupid experience with the '7 too. I put it through a glorious 19' worth of wooden privacy fence. As one can imagine, my FC wasn't exactly rebuildable but--fortunately--my friend and I both walked away w/o a scratch. Needless to say, I'll be treating my current one differently.

Glad to hear everything worked out in the end!
