I used a 30D, and I was using manual mode. something like..60/5.6 or so.

jeez, I would encourage a safer approach next time. Just build a simple metal arm that will bolt to the camera and use the timer, or hook up a trigger. Also bear in mind you would probably get a reckless endangerment charge or something like that if a cop saw you.
