The red FD didnt have an LS1.

When the cam car was off the throttle, you can hear the rotary note as the red FD blasted away.

WOW! Were those headlights on the back of the white car? I think the driver put headlights over the tailights. They were flipping me out.

that red rx7 most likely had some 3 rotor twin turbo setup for low end power like that., but that was deffinately a 3 rotor., could even be a 4? who knows. them aussies are CCCCRRRRRAAAAZZZZYY

I can find info/specs on Troy Stones's old red 1st gen racecar that was sold, but I can't find anything about his red FD though.

 

All I know is those races start with the fastest in the back....so those two 7's must be the fastest in that class...

 

All of the RX7s shown run 13B engines. Most are bridgeport turbo (such as the camera car), some extend port turbo and a couple of NA bridgeports. The class is a combined grid of differing categories. Only about half the cars are in the 'top' category. Some of the lower spec cars are Under 2000cc, non turbo etc.

The video is from the second race of the day - reverse grid. The first race of the day's grid positions are determined by a 10 minute qualifying session. The finishing order of race 1 is reversed for race 2 - hence the reasonably frantic first few laps. The red FD may have looked quick (and it is) but the camera car out qualified it and won the first race of the day. To be fair though, the red FD more often than not has a few tenths on the camera car at most meetings.

Most competitors are a little vague when it comes to quoting horsepower figures, but the front running RX7s produce over 400 horsepower at the rear wheels with around 15 - 18psi boost. They weigh (with driver) between 1100kg and 1200kg and are restricted to 7" wide wheels (225 tyres). The control tyre is the Toyo R888.

The red FD (and most of the other FDs) run PPG close ratio dog boxes. The camera car runs a standard Series 5 road box. Not by choice - more of a 'budget' constraint.

Next video update will be around mid October and then again in mid November. The latter meeting will be under lights and we have new video camera equipment coming to capture more footage from more cars.
