disassembled my S4 nonturbo motor

so I was bored yesterday and finally had time to take this motor apart. gawd damn the flywheel is heavy as hell... almost 26 pounds? thats insanity. I firmly believe the STOCK rotary motor is NOT lightweight for its power output, there is definitely room for improvements in weight when building a race motor or a fast streetcar, but it was amazing to me how heavy this entire package is, not trying to be a ******** here, just stating my observations and opinions. I really thought the motor was gonna be HALF as heavy as it was, especially since I had it torn down to a shortblock when I started. I guess that now I understand the rotary CAN be a lightweight powerplant for its output, in an all out race setup where you can use a superlightweight flywheel and clutch assembly and lightweight rotors and dont they even have aluminum housings or whatever so the entire motor can be aluminum?
I'd have to agree that a lightened setup like that could be amazingly light for its output, being incredibly responsive and probably put out a streetable 600hp from turbocharging, does that sound about right?

anyhow, you can see where the block failed, such a tiny wall there, not a surprise it blew out after 188,000 miles, all stock, all nonturbo.

I'll take more pics when its back from the engien shop being cleaned up.
