Not impressed. Range of motion is like four inches and he's bouncing that **** off his chest like it is going out of style. I'm no super body builder and am lucky to max 285 cleanly but I think videos like that are bullshit...get a real ROM and don't bounce.
Skinny dudes...HAHA
Stupid assumptions like you having any idea of what that man or any other big or powerful man feels like is absurd.
Your satement is no different than all the people who look at our fast cars and wonder what the point is in dropping thousands of dollars into a car that you will never be able the resale and recover the money, and most times can never use the power or performance that the car has.
The point is this... It's a passion, it does not need to make sense to any one but the individual who pursues it.

However for all practicality, being that big is useless except for power lifting. This isn't the god damn stone age where people are pushing boulders around or some ****! =)
I'm 6'6", 230 @ 10% body fat so relatively big/strong/fast/athletic by most peoples standards. I know the difficulties I have with "normal" sized things day to day, screw being as big as some of those power lifters!
Making the statement "you guys try it" isn't practical but defensive...especially considering the ROM deficiency in form. If he was using a full ROM and not bouncing I'd be impressed as hell! I realize he is very strong and has put a lot of effort into being big but I'm not going to respect his lift when it is that sloppy.
Hell, by your standards if I bounced the bar off my chest for 200 reps with a 2" ROM you'd be impessed!
All <3
GG
What Onn is doing is called a speed bench. We use it in powerlifting to become more powerfull by developing explosiveness through a limited range of motion. If you will notice Onn is a very short armed guy, this makes his range of motion look very short, especially when your 6'6" and have long arms. The range that he does not use is the lockout which is performed by the triceps. To train that area you use a totally different movement. Why he is doing that many reps is beyond me, probably to see if he can. Typically he would do only 6 sets of 3 on speed bench. For a speed bench he has good form. I doubt any of you (who don't respect what he has done) know or have ever been in a gym with any real power lifters if you had you would know what you are watching and be impressed and have a right to an opinion. Onn Basson is a good powerlifter who competes in the APF, IPF, and WPO and has a total of over 2400lbs @ 275lbs.
Gringo as for a defensive statement "you try it" sure it was. First you don't know what you are looking at. Just because you lift weights once in awhile does not mean you know jack. Millions of people have cars, do you think many people look at yours and give it any respect for what it is or the time you have put into it? For you to say you don't respect that man is ignorant and shows your insecurity.
As for my standards, I am quite sure you are used to pushing with a 2" ROM
But.... you know nothing of powerlifting, your 6'6" at only 230lbs, and you keep track of your body fat, haha pretty boy who never left his college town. You don't even scratch the surface of my standards boy.
Thanks War Hammer, I enjoyed the VID!

It's not the same. If I stop working on my car for a few months, it will be the same. If you stop working out, you regress. And, it takes a massive amount of time in the gym. I'd rather spend my time doing something else. I run marathons but it doesn't consume my life. And when I say I think it is overrated, I mean just that. There isn't some childish underlying issue in that. I just don't like the way it looks especially since it takes up so much of your life. When I turn 70, I will still be running marathons and driving my fast cars. A 70 year old body builder looks rediculous. I am pretty sure I would realize I wasted my life with that kind of obsession. I can pass my medals and cars to my kids. Someone that big can only say, "hey, I'm big."
I used to power lift as a teenager until my early 20's. I was a trainer at our local meat head gym. Everyone that was a decent body builder or power lifter is now much smaller, one in jail over drugs, 1 dead (heart) but NONE still lifting serious... I will admit to using the juice for a bit also, nothing serious just a little deca.. . 15 years later= I go to the gym, lift moderate and chase being in shape like mens health not FLEX mag. To each is own.. Have to admit lifting heavey was a great feeling. Funny, I used to try so damn hard to hit 200lbs, now the total opposite.... LOL
BTW... 225 for 72 is crazy..

Your comparing inanimate mechanical objects to living tissue.
You making statements concerning your personal interest, desire or lack there of, are completely subjective and have no basis of fact.
If running marathons does not consume a large part of your life, I can guarantee you will have no medals from running them. Do a little research on what running does to your body. Not many things you can do will destroy your joints like high impact movements. Ask a 70 year old competitive runner how they feel in the morning.
Why do you run marathons? Is it because it is so good for you, uh no, running 26 miles straight is terrible for your muscular, neurological, and endocrine systems. Is it because it makes your body look good, uh no, marathon runners look like they just got out of prison camp. Is it because it's a nice relaxing way to relieve stress, no, it's a grueling task for anyone to undertake.
So based on your reasons as to why you would not have anything to do with bodybuilding and it's such a waste of time I am sure everyone would love to hear why running a marathon is so much better.
Why you brought up bodybuilding in the first place is beyond me. Did some bodybuilder pick on you? Stuff you in the trash can at school, push you in the ditch while your were training for your marathon? Let it go man!!! The man in the video is a powerlifter not a bodybuilder. They have about as much in common as drag racing and autoX.
Judging by the lack of intelligent, informed comments in your little rant I doubt you will realize any more at 70 then you do now. I can go on all day pointing out why your statements are without any merit, But I, unlike you, do realize a waste of time when I see it. Thanks for the laughs.
Done with this thread now, I have to go waste my life away in the gym!!!

so to defend a matter thats subjective is as youve indicated... a waste of time.. go spend it in the gym where it matters to you..
no offense intended..

I dabble in powerlifting, I've considered competing as an amateur for fun and for the experience. I really enjoy it, and if done safely I think it's a great way to prepare your body now for the ravishes of the aging process down the road.....
I remember when I met you at DGRR you were a solid guy Mike, not surprised to hear you have a powerlifting background

Come on now Rich, Just admit I am a flabby fat *** now!!!
I was going along fine up till a month ago, now every night I spend grinding on plates and housing in the garge... LOL
BTW...My brothers were the strong ones. 100% natural power/body builders. I watched one bench 400lbs at 185, no shirt. Funny, he was going for 395 and walk to the water fountain and I tossed on 2.5's...lol Watched the other squat 500lbs at 177 "NO KNEE WRAPS".... But in a Z suit. Good old days...
My first meet I did I had a 19yr old guy breaking world records. But since it was not a certain sanctioned meet it did not count. He was out lifting open class heavey weights. . I do not remember his total but I know his bench was 5-600 area, squat was 800's amd dead lift was about the same. Since we were the only teenagers in the meet they put us in the same class (open class) I look like a twig next to him..
