Wouldn't it be better if you had the carb inlets boxed up and that hood scoop feeding the box?

What kind of AITs are you getting?

Wouldn't it be better to run a larger carb???
I need to take some pix of my TII soon.
It has no fan club yet and it's all my fault.
So have you dyno'ed the car yet??
Or put it on the track???
What kind of numbers are we looking at???

I am digging it all, except the chrome fenders. It definately looks like alot of love and work went into this car.

I don't know why you saved weight with the little 4" speaker system, only
to put on Chrome fenders.

Your right. Thought about boxing the carb with those aluminum kits like most domestic hot rods probably make more Hp but I want the air to go over the engine too. Vegas is real hot. Need all the cooling possible. 120+ deg F sometimes. The hood scoop lowered my average (normal driving around town) temperature by 6+ deg F. Don't know my Avg. Inlet temps just trying to get as much cooler air into that engine bay.

The factory stock fenders weigh approx 9lbs.
The OE fenders from Victoria British with chrome weigh a few ticks less than 9 lbs.
Polished aluminum hood with hood scoop about 5 lbs lighter than before with paint.

I'm getting a full day of dyno work from Nick of Rotary Reliability & Racing (California) the day before Seven Stock. Will have the numbers, hopefully he can ring out more HP than me. My car will be at their booth.
Any of you guys going?

I can run any Holley 4 barrel on it but Nick suggested to stick with the Weber. He's gotten over 325+HP on his Peripherial Port engines with them (48mm bored out to 51mm). There is a 50mm and 55mm DCO Weber available but drivability goes way down. Not enough signal strength. Only for high rpm applications so I've been told.

Best time so far is 13.7 @ 101mph. 2100 ft elevation, 105 deg F temp.
Hopefully after Nick tunes it and I improve my driving skills and cooler weather I will see quicker times. Will post best time slip when dialed in.

I did not want to go with any body kits. I like the way how Mazda presented the car. I wanted to enhance (in my humble opinion) the factory look without physically changing the dimensions. But mostly to have a unique personal look unlike no other.

Future plans: full tube frame w/aluminum interior, tubs, 4 link rear w/9" Ford
If possible 2000lbs wet. Also much more power. But still street driven.

RHSCARE yeah it's been awhile. I missed your Red Rock drive and Factory Mazda Performance test session in LA. Are you going to the 240SX Labor day BBQ?
We need to get a group meeting agin - Ichiza's? How's your TII doing. I think thats the only clean TII in Vegas I've seen. Not too many around.

Thanks All
This is a great site. Enormous - a lot of information and tips here WOW. Some serious hardcore fanatics here. My kind of people.

Thanks guys for the nice words and encouragement.

Yeah- you had the same problem I have. I have to launch at 7000rpm to prevent from bogging. Its fun but hard on the car. I used to use drag radials but they were too hard and I would break axles. Rotary Performance suggested to use the MT ET street slicks. This cured the problem so far. I like the aluminum flywheel - it seems to rev faster. I need all the extra power I can get. Nick is great ! He's my choice for the west coast.

Thanks

Hey Riceburner:

Thanks for the flywheel tip.
What did you do with your 2nd gen drag car (engine, drivetrain, susp, ect) ? What times and HP did you get? Any tips if you don't mind. Going to be at Seven Stock this year? Meet at Nicks. Tell him you want to put a huge Nitrous unit on (he doesn't like using it). back in the early 80's he built my friends 12A with a big street port. He ran a 200 shot on it in a RX3. Ran mid 11's. Used the nitrous all the time for over two years and never had any problems. Nick used to tell us to not use N2O. Sold the car to a friend.

Thanks

Hey man, Love the car and babe! Question, When you installed the supercharger did you have to disconnect all the emissions? I was looking at the camdem and they have it written that you have to remove the emissions to install the supercharger...Let me know....Thx

We know you have a lot of money in the car......

How much money do you have invested in the girl? Is she yours or are you renting her/financing her...lol. I know a guy who paid a Stripper to pose for some pics on his car.. His car smelled like that apple spray they all wear for about a week.

Thanks:
For me the main reasons is not about the money invested in the car or the amount of power or how fast the car is. I plan on keeping this car for my lifetime.
It is about being creative, developing skills, learning and meeting challenges. When I first acquired the car in 1994 (good condition N/A 30,000 miles) I did the basic bolt ons, progressively upgrading all the parts. My last major performance upgrade was a 100 wet shot nitrous kit. I ran the set up very rich (7-7.5 psi fuel press.) probably closer to 80+ HP. Best time was 13.2 @ 106mph (sea level 70 deg F). With used Caldwell retread street slicks. That motor lasted til 160,000 miles (nitrous used about 2-4 runs a month).

At the time of my rebuild, I wanted to stay N/A. I like the simplicity of having easy access to the engine and low maintenance. I knew what Nick of Rotary Reliabilty can do with rotary's so I had him build the engine w/ weber setup (off road use only) that is currently in the car now minus the Camden supercharger. I was able to get 14.5 @ 98mph, 2.0 60ft.-Nitto drag radials (2100ft. elevation, 100+ deg F). It was very fun, low maintenance and I shifted at 9300 rpm with no problems. Now the car has 197,000 miles on it.

With 35,000 miles on Nicks engine (no oil leaks or any of any kind, excellent compression and good mechanical condition) I wanted more power and the engine was still good. I generally don't buy used parts so I didn't want to go with a used turbo system. First off, I don't have the skills/experience to determine which parts would be usable. Second I have more faith and prefer new parts.
A new custom turbo system did not seem to be a wise choice considering I could only run realtively low boost (N/A engine 6 port with TII rotor housings-high compression) and the cost would be high. The Camden supercharger kit only cost under $2400.00. I was told it would make over 30% more power. I will have a dyno session Oct. 7, 2005 before Sevenstock (will post). I went from 14.5 @ 98mph to 13.7 @101mph (MT ET Street slicks only chassis change)(both at 2100 ft elevation 105deg F). 8/10's improvement on my tuning. I'm sure Nick will get more power out of it than me. I spent under $3300.00 total in the supercharger installation (price includes new slicks , Rotary Performance Race fuel pump, stainless hose fuel lines front to back, boost gauge and misc parts).
Yes I could have gotten much more power by putting back my nitrous system back in but I have already done that with my first engine. I didn't want to be concerned with refilling the nitrous bottle and wanted a permenant power increase that was user friendly. Not on/off like nitrous.

Currently the supercharged engine has over 2000 miles on it. 4 runs at the track, and about 10 runs street tested plus occassional ful rpm pulls. My redline has dropped from 9300rpm to 8500 rpm (Camden max rpm suggested). There was never any ignition timing problems people speak of with boosted N/A's (set about 5 degs retarded). I've never had any detenation problems yet. The boost doesn't fall off and seems to keep wanting to pull past 8500rpm (It is real easy to overrev). And I drive this car in 120+ deg F Vegas weather. Low rpm power has improved greatly. Gas mileage is poor but that is not one of concerns or I would invest in a hybrid.

Of course a decent turbo system will make more power.
If the horsepower/torque, and time slip is my only concern I could have put in a 383 cu. in. chevy with 500 HP and 550 ft. lbs. torque, slip it in with a Granny's Speed shop or Hinson engine cradle for a less than what I spent.

I enjoy driving this car almost daily (3-5 times a week) . It is the most fun and gratifying car I have owned. At one time I owned a new 1982 Porsche 911 and 1982 Ferrari 308 (have pics and keys).

I am planning to tube framing the car, with aluminum interior, with a 4 link Ford 9" rear. Trying to shoot for 2000lbs wet.
Not decided on Engine yet. I don't want to go with a V8. I have two V8's a 400hp 331 chevy and a 500 hp 383 chevy still in a vega.
I want to get at least 500 HP reliably.
And most importantly drive it 3-5 times a week. Thats the fun part, being able to drive your personalized car.

My next step is getting a 500HP engine in the car. I will do this after this engine is ready for retirement. All indications so far seem it should last a while. It hasn't showed any problems with 10 lbs of boost yet. If the engine seems to be without any mechanical problems and will survive for some time I will go ahead with the tube framing project first. Then the new engine; and try to do a VW bug coversion with this current engine (unless this engine fails ) (hopefully @ 1100 lbs wet).
That should get some decent times.

Hey man, Love the car and babe! Question, When you installed the supercharger did you have to disconnect all the emissions? I was looking at the camdem and they have it written that you have to remove the emissions to install the supercharger...Let me know....Thx
Thanks for the compliment.
For the record I have to say since this car is publically driven and that all emission control systems have not been tampered with and passes all emission standards. And the photo of the engine was set up off road use that day and not driven on public streets.

If you are referring to the supercharger for using the factory fuel injection system, then I don't know what the issues are regarding the Emissions system. Atkins Rotary number is 253-848-7776 ask for Andy or Mr. Atkins they will be more than helpful to be of help.

We know you have a lot of money in the car......

How much money do you have invested in the girl? Is she yours or are you renting her/financing her...lol. I know a guy who paid a Stripper to pose for some pics on his car.. His car smelled like that apple spray they all wear for about a week.
Are you being sarcastic? I guess some people will interpret my presentation as pretentious. That was not my intentions. Hot gals and hot rods go back since cars were manufactured. The photoshoot was a great and fun first time experience.

To answer your question she is a model who works for Impact Models agency (www.impact-models.com) I may bring her out to Seven Stock to spice up my car. I can use all the help i can get. I know it still has a long ways to go. Like alot of you my car is always a work in progress. After seeing many of the cars posted at this website I have a long ways to go. But it is a fun journey. Its been a great learning experience since 1994 and look forward to the future.

Thanks All, and God Speed
