Seeking some Rtek advice!

Hey guys!

I drive a 1987 TII and have the following mods.

-S5 turbo and manifold w/ ported waste gate
-Racingbeat RevII turbo-back exhaust
-Exedy stage 1 clutch
-Rtek 1.5 ECU
-GReddy fmic kit
-HKS SSQV
-Dual Pulley w/ air pump removed
-Intake filter

I am running 10psi right now. But I am really interested in doing a BNR hybrid turbo setup. Question is... what Rtek would support what I want to run?

I am looking for around 250whp on a low setting and dreaming of around 300 on a higher setting of boost. I'm guessing running of around 15psi or so on a stage 1.

But I'm wondering if the 2.1 is what I should go for or would the 1.8 be alright? I am pretty new at learning about messing w/ tuning and what not but am eager to learn. My question is... when and if I get the 2.1... would it be easy to install it and run around on it for a while? I get confused as I read through about timing and such and want to know some more sources for learning about tuning beginnings and basics.

Looking into getting a wideband as well. That's a must. But any recommendations on fuel setup as to pump and what injectors to run? Also... I remember a buddy of mine running a palm pilot for tuning his Rtek 2.1... what methods are you guys using?

Thanks for your time.

you going to want to get the 2.1 and 720cc injectors all around if you want to run 300hp. With 250hp you are pushing the limit of the stock fuel setup.

Yeah I will definitely upgrade injectors with this obviously to support the larger turbo and the air it will be moving. I have been reading the FAQ's... didn't know this section had that. But yeah, whoops! Any more advice from people with experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for replying btw!

Also you definitely want to pick up a wideband o2 sensor. It will help immensely with tuning because you can log to the palm at the same time with the rest of the information.

I have heard bad things about the AEM and burning up sensors but noticed a lot of FC owners use them w/ no problem. Any recommendations... I have piddled around at looking at the PLX and it goes for around the same price as the UGEO.

I've never had any personal experience with the PLX, but I do have 2 of the AEM's. One in my car and one in the wifes TII. I've had great luck with both of them and never burned up any sensors. ( knock on wood ). I agree with Solareon about going with the 2.1 being able to datalog everything is very handy for tuning. Good luck.

I have the plx, and so far so good ... Now that I bought it though I wish I got the cheaper innovate package that comes with a gauge that only displays the afr, no light show. The innovate is not only better with this package but cheaper.

For 300whp you could probably run a 1.8 with an SAFC but for $100 more you could have a much safer/reliable car and make more power with the 2.1. You should upgrade to an FD pump, I got mine for $35 shipped.

I really wouldn't go for a stage 1 though...just my opinion. You don't need to dream if you just get the right turbo for your power goals. And about learning to tune you could probably pick up one of the many books on tuning EMS's. Theres really nothing to the install part of it...

well. The BNR stage 1 is supposed to easily make 300 whp. But its all in the tune and supporting mods. But I have a buddy who makes his own version of the BNR turbo's... just builds his own concoction and he is making some nice reliable power.

I have heard nothing but good things from BNR and 300 is probably where I want to sit around max power on a high boost setting. I want it to be mountain friendly b/c its a big hobby for me.

I'll keep sifting through and slowly attain the things I need for this. I think I'm leaning towards the 2.1 in reality you know. Thanks for all of the responses guys. I really appreciate it.

rotarybeat1287 - Here's a link to my dyno thread: https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/my-dyno-runs-796564/

That is with a RTek7 1.8 ECU, BNR Stage 1, 4 GReddy 720cc injectors, and Walbro fuel pump. But I would advise against getting the Walbro because mine took a dump on me and left me stranded on the highway a couple weeks ago. Just stopped working. I've got a RP Competition pump now. Also, I have the AEM UEGO and have had no problems with it.

Hey man thanks! I think I ran across that thread and was really impressed w/ it. How was your AF ratio's w/ that setup and the boost you were making? I've also heard some bad things about the walbro pumps. I was guided towards a Toyota Supra pump and getting them brand new since they are denso if I recall.

Well I was running a Turbo XS HPDS manual boost controller and boost was falling off after 5500rpms. But at 8psi the A/F ratio started in the mid 11's then dropped to the mid 10's and at 12psi the A/F ratio started in the mid 12's then dropped to the mid 11's. The RP competition pump is a Denso pump that supposedly flows a little bit more than the Supra pump. And is a little bit cheaper than the Supra pump, my local Toyota dealer quoted me $355 for a new Supra pump.

I have sources of a Supra pump new for $160. haha. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to start obtaining parts for this. I want to find an original GReddy Profec-B for my boost controller. BTW, do you have any pictures of your car?

I only have old pictures without the diffuser or spoiler. But I'm going to change the oil and take it out for a drive tomorrow so I'll take some pictures too.
