RTEK 1.8 with a BNR stage 2

I was wondering if I could run a BNR stage 2 on a RE with a rtek 1.8. It will have 720/720s. Not sure how much fuel I have to add for the stage 2 but do you think I'll be fine with a 1.8? I didn't want to spend the money for a 2.1 because I'm going standalone when I get my 42R.

no. I mean you could...but u need to control fuel. You risk popping your motors. Its been covered many times in this section. Just search.

i am doing a 6port conversion, and plan on using BNR stage 2, tII ecu 720cc/720cc or more injectors. My question is will the rtek 1.8 retard my timing without the knock sensor?? and then i can add fuel from like an safc to make it run safely?? any help would be appreciated

The BNR or any other aftermarket turbo will change the air/fuel making it leaner...So yes you can use a Safc...I recommend using some kind of Wideband to monitor AFR.

The rtek pulls timing based on PSI so yes it will pull timing a deg per psi after 9psi.

Running the engine without a knockbox....I wouldn't run it without it...if you were to knock a hammer on the block while the engine is running you'll see the ECU will pull timing...It should be ok if your running on the rich side. Are you running stock rotors if so...you shouldn't even go over 6psi anyway on high compression rotors.

Be careful tuning, 88rxN/A (?) on this forum blew his motor running 550cc/720ccs on a 5th gear WOT pull at 2500rpm on a bigger turbo (didn't specify). He said the car went lean as you'd expect from a RPM based fuel controller like the SAFC. He was running a 1.7 RTEK too, so either avoid high-load and low RPM conditions or keep it rich down below.

And depending on S5 and S4 you might want to either run low boost or run water and methanol injection/E85 with a fuel upgrade. 1* retard above 9psi may not be enough for an S5. FYI Aaron Cake ran 10psi on his 550/550 setup on the stock turbo and I run 8psi on the same setup in an S5.

As for the knockbox most people think its a waste of time to install one. HAILERS installed one from a parts car on his 6PT and felt it was a complete waste. Even a single count of detonation/preignition can do major damage in these engines so most times its too late. Not to mention from what I've read you can feel detonation like a brick wall, just keep the tune on the safe side and you'll be good. People run 17psi+ on 9.7:1 rotors with EMS's so with the conservative stock timing maps and enough water/meth/E85 you'll be plenty safe on the timing side.

i mean i have definitely done my research...i have an s4 tII uim and lim, tb, ecu, and all the parts necessary for that conversion along with 255lph fuel pump and 720cc/720cc injectors, and my motor is getting rebuilt and street ported so i know i will be able to run higher psi and i do plan on running on the rich side just to be safe...and i just want to get to atleast 300whp, i know its possible so the nay sayers quit while you're ahead, i am just curious which would better to run the rtek 1.8w/ safc, or just the rtek 2.1 ??

lol, 300whp with a Stage 2 will be cake. Someone here (search 6 port turbo in 2G section) put down 253whp@8psi on the stock turbo with a stock S5 6 port block. And with the higher fuel pressures from the Walbro I think you'll be good. If you get the 2.1 you will make much more power. ****, I think its a complete waste of money to go with the 1.x and SAFC combo, because for another $100 you can make power power and run safer, not to mention the other cool things about the 2.x RTEK that make your life easy.

The SAFC doesn't care if you're at WOT @ 2500rpm in first gear going downhill or WOT @ 2500 in 5th gear going up a steep hill, it will add the same amount of fuel, it doesn't care about boost or load. Members have also reported that the ECU ignores all SAFC corrections in closed loop operation (cruise/partial throttle). With the RTEK you can also tune timing which is a HUGE plus. Just research EMS tuning (or buy a book on it) if you plan on tuning it yourself.

i have a rtek1.8 and a bnr stage 4 sitting here and i have no idea which route to take. i was thinking about 720/1000 injectors and have it tuned with the safc. anyone have any idea what would be the max boost the bnr stage 4 can put out safely with this set up? i have stock internals.

with a turbo that big i think you would benefit from the enhanced timing control of the 2.1

I wouldnt go above stock boost if you dont have a wideband.
