iphone/ipad doesn't run android and cannot be used. Due to apple's business practices, an iOS version will never happen.

Right now, any device running Android 2.1 or later and has a bluetooth radio that supports SPP. It's too early to have a list of devices that work.

I'm excited about this also. I'm putting my motor together either this Saturday
or next. And I'm looking at having the S4 TII Rtech 2.1 to run it. Its a great
option for me to stay with in the rules and be able to have more control over the
motor. Thanks for giving us the Rtech as an option!

Most bluetooth devices have security codes that are 0000, or they are the same for all the same model number. If that where the case I could see someone being a horrible person at a mazda meet and just start tinkering with peoples tunes. That or some kind of way to set your own pin on the adapter, but then that gets to be a pita if someone forgets their pin.

It is possible to set a pin. But I don't think the end user will be able to.

Options...
Have a non standard pin
Have random pins programmed from the factory and printed on the dongle itself.

Not sure what else could be done, assuming the user could not set their own pin. I know if you were to connect the dongle's serial side to a computer, you might be able to set a pin. but it would require you to open the dongle.

like I said, more of a non issue if not powered all the time, but a randomized pin that is printed on the adapter(so it doesn't wear off easily) should work too.

I don't want to make it more complicated, but we are talking about a engine that could go boom if someone that shouldn't play in it starts to play.

Oh, right.. if the car isn't running, you cant get in even if the bluetooth is powered.

But I think random pins would be the easiest printed outside and inside.

he does bring up a good point, what happens when two(or more) bluetooth'd rteks are on in the same area, it would be swell to have each rtek be named something other then going by the different MAC addresses.

Initial bluetooth tests of datalogging speed are looking pretty dismal. Looking into solutions...

We are working around it. So far we have a proof of concept using BT that gets double the rate the Palm does.

USB would require extensive hardware on the ECU side. We plan on doing it but it will probably only be available for new Rteks.

I am happy to do any testing for Ice cream and of course pay for a early dongle if you like. Although I am sure you have plenty of volunteers.

My computer died (maybe, the hard drive stopped working), and my palm's batteries are weak, charge last about 2 hrs... would be nice to have a spiffy android interface!
