Just seen the anouncement on ESPN this morning, they'll only be running 1000 feet.

 

So they are shaving off 320ft so they have more room to stop and have slower times???? This is stupid in my opinion. You can lengthen or shorten the track all they want but they are still are pumping over 8000hp and something will go wrong regardless. They need to spend more time in making the chassis/motor more safe and better runnouts and sand traps/etc. at the end of the track.

A fast run in a fuel car has them going about 270mph at the 1/8 mile. They "only" gain another 60mph to the full 1/4 mile. So it won't impact top speeds all that much. It will make historical/statistical comparisons very difficult, though.

 

They are doing this for more reasons than runout. Most of the explosions on these cars happen after the 8th mile. This move should greatly reduce these events and wear and tear on parts, reducing operating costs, and increasing safety

 

i dont see this helping anything.

 

Maybe they should just go to 400 meter runs! And do away with the Foot and In, and lb's!!! And JOIN THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!

The only reason the NHRA is doing that is because there's a serious Nitromethane shortage! Shorter distance means less fuel used. Economical racing.

they're doing this while Scott Kalitta's crash is still under investigation not cause of the shortage they've known about the shortage all season but they have enough for the remainder of the year

your going almost 190-220 on a quarter mile at my school we have a rail car and a bush car we turned into a track car let me tell you if you add anymore weight to those cars there time will drop dramaticly i say leave it how it is. You know befor you get into those cars and /or bikes that there is a high chance your ganna die by addng wieght or something like that your just a bigger car going down the track ready to do more damage. Sand pits wont realy help for "more safer" track cars cause they will just find a way to make them faster lol so i say leave it how it is you know what your getting your self into

 

theres those good ol' boys for ya. did you ever think the reason why is cause we cant figure it out yet eastern country have 4 cyclinder that put out as much as our 6 cyclinders they do things right the first time. The government/coorporate is too blame. They put all of the factories in china, so we could have "cheaper items" (since it was cheaper to produce) the downfall is the coorporate companies still charge high prices. And now many americans are also without jobs. But the main thing is that all the factories in china now have our desings so they can reverse engineer anything. Like all the garret turbos.




Oh and **** the oil and gas BS. You can blame your gov. Here are some facts that might blow your mind. They HEMP Plant has like a "billion" uses. ANyways.
The very First car that FORD made was something close to 70% hemp. plastics etc. It was even powered by Organic Hemp fuel(which burns way cleaner than oil).
This is how the firsat FORD car was introduced to the WORLD and our gov.
But here comes the GOV along with there butt buddy the rockafellers. And guess what happened. They convinced ford to make them run of oil based gas. Not uncommon for the gov to side with huge companies for benefits we never see.

Ropes on a sailing ship were made of hemp and a fire broke out and the smoke from the ropes keept the captian from leaving thus go down with the ship!
