Maybe something was wrong with your step up or your driving to be breaking them every 4 runs. I still have the same tranny only came out because I wanted to give the liberty a try. We'll see how she holds up.
Wasn't trying to start a pissing match bro. All I was saying is when I launch my car I was cutting 1.40 60's. When you lanuch this hard, the output shaft will snap in your driveshaft. Im not the only one it happens to. Ari Yallon breaks a stock tranny once a race. He cuts 1.3 60's. The lanuch is where your gonna break. Dyno pulls and driving around is fine. When you put a dog tooth gearset in our **** fd box, it wants to expand, thus flexing and cracking it. I don't know your tranny setup so I wish you luck with it. My main point was simply if your gonna drag race, you'll need a tranny to handle it.

Ernie, I thank you for your info!

I hate to waste money so I am not sure what I will do yet. I dont think my tranny is even bad just looking at ideas and seeing if there is a chearer out. I may see what kind of warranty or if they will let me be a test car for it. First things first.

So the things I am wondering is:

1. if I brace the tranny case in the broken areas
2. the treatment of the internals
3. if they can make a billet output shaft

Will this hold? Not sure what the brace fab up would cost me but 1400 for tranny work and 700-900 for output shaft would yield a 2100-2300 kick *** tranny "IF" it will hold.

Nobody is trying to start a pissing match Ernie. You stated your opinion am I not allowed to state mine ? You came on here saying "I dont give a **** whose done what" like your experience is the standard and will be the same as everyone elses. I was merely showing that in my situation I have yet to break a tranny and I have consistently cut plenty of 1.4 60's. Others (drag cars) are cutting 1.2 60's and in the 8s on a stock tranny and get more then 4 passes out of them.

Nobody is saying its bulletproof and yes I agree if you want to drag race spend the money and buy a real tranny but they are not cheap. If my stock tranny ever broke I would love spending 200 bucks for another used one if it would last as long as my current one has. Much rather spend that 5 times then the 3k + price for one which is also not bulletproof. If is a drag car dont waste your time but if its still a "real" street car your compromising a lot of streetability.

I have broken 2 transmissions. Both times 3rd gear lost all the teeth. The last one cracked the case in a few places

So do the S5 trans have the same problem as the FD trans when you start making that kind of power, or are they any stronger? B/c I kinda had the same idea as sk8world with my trans. I'm gonna be building a new motor, with a larger turbo this winter and there are thought's of having liberty faceplate 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and installing new bearings also. Was just kinda wandering...

Stock box 1st gen running 9.2 and 1.3 60ft

Surely there is enough demand for a gear manufacturer to make a stronger 3rd gear to replace the stock item.

the only difference is the syncros and the tailshaft/shifter are slightly different, they both take the same abuse before breaking except i prefer the thought of trans mounts vs the FD PPF.

Sk8world,
I think I mentioned to you I've had all the metal treatment done by Liberty. It has held up until I shift from 2nd to 5th and I twist the cluster shaft. Question rather it needs treated since I think it just holds 5th and reverse gears. I'm real curious how the faceplating drives on the street. I don't drag that often but lots of dyno and street pulls at 560-630whp. I figured you had plenty of cluster shafts in old trannys???? I was actually going to PM you for one. Let me know how the faceplated gears drive on the street.

Thanks Enzo! I question the output shaft. By looks it doesnt apear differant metal than the stock output shaft???? Can only see the end but I expected it to be a polished look. I called Paul back at Liberty and he said it was the upgraded shaft??

I had a couple spare (bad syncros) tranny's but I got a new input shaft and cluster from Ari. Figured if I was going to do this I wanted new parts. So I got a good bit in it now. Hope it proves to be worth it.

You won't be able to notice the difference unless you open the box up..
If paul told you it's in there believe him that's it's in there.. Now go bang some gears..

I turned up the boost on the car and made some decent power, more than I ever made. I take the car down to Maryland and the first pass, broke the output shaft. It's the first time I ever broke one. Glad to see you upgraded the tranny!

Sk8world, while it does shift pretty effortlessly just go easy on the downshifts as it does not like those one bit.
