Scattershield?

Having a hard time locating a scattershield for my rx4 bellhousing. I found a local guy that can make me one but he wants an arm and a leg and I'm looking for other options or leads. I tried the racing store, but they don't make them anymore and even some PR leads are running dry. If anyone knows where I might be able to get on please let me know. Thank you.

We are talking about your safety here. You could pay the arm and a leg or loose an arm and a leg

Hey caca hole, I know someone in PR that sells them...

Allen you are 100% correct.. Saw someone lose part of their foot when a FW came loose. Just a few years ago i saw a Rx3 clutch go 60ft in the air, it rip through the body as if it was plastic

I would say any time you launch or shift the motor higher than 8500.

Guys you can check this place for scatter shields http://newimportspeedshop.net/
they quoted me like 290 for a shatter shield( not bag) for my 3rd gen.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the links and help, I appreciate it.

Indian, I actually bought the one from the shop that you posted the link for above. It will be here in 5 days and is actually 100 bucks cheaper than they guy that was going to make mine. Thank you.

Man, I keep adding on heavy things to my car. I guess there's no substitute for safety though.

Will you be able to attach the new scattershield to the chassis? I think eddie who makes them in socal does that for you. More safety = More weight

Eddie was who I was going to have my scattershield made. I know he does good work but he was just a little out of my price range. Although mounting the shield to the chassis adds a little more strength it also adds more weight and is uneccessary. Bolted to the bellhousing bolts works just fine.

So motors not revved to 8500 shouldn't necessarily need them?

I think it's more of a class(@ track) thing. Some classes require you to have a scatter shield and /or transmission and engine diaper.

For the 3rd gen, 8500rpm is a breeze, and if you run like a exedy or better twin/triple plate clutch(comes with their own flywheel), those are rated @ over 11000 rpms.

With that, it all comes down to your own piece of mind.

Was that car running the heavy-*** OEM flywheel?
Wouldnt that be a logical part to change before bothering with a scatter shield?
I understand wanting the extra inertia for launches, but NA drag RPMs and a 27ish# hunk of spinning cast iron is scary.

Anything that is spinning over 9000rpm is scary. That's why you need to run a scattershield regardless of what size/weight flywheel/clutch you are using. Pressure plates and clutches can cause massive damage at that rpm too, so it's not just the flywheel.

Yes it was the stock flywheel from the looks of it , what let loose was the pressureplate the flywheel was still intack ! Its like Jay
