To raffle or not to raffle...

That is the question.

Support seems to be growing for the drag car, and now we need to pay for it. As I suggested in another thread, here's a way to pay for it:

I will go and buy 1000 raffle tickets. Exactly 1000. For every $25 in cash or parts you donate, you get a raffle ticket.

A) Now, the parts you donate must be required for the build, don't go sending us drum brakes from a Chevelle or something, and the part will be judged for fair market value. For example, I'll donate the full rolling shell of my FB, and I'll say it's worth $500, which is fair market value. Therefore, I'd receive 20 of the 1000 tickets for the drawing. Donate an $800 turbo? You get 32 tickets. Simple math.

I propose that IF we win, one lucky ticket holder will receive the forum built car.

As a consolation prize if we were to lose, one lucky ticket holder would receive any of the left over money from the build, that way someone is guaranteed to get something. If we win, the left over money will go to ship the car to the winner, and any remaining build money will be raffled off as 2nd prize. Remember, there is no guarantee that our car will win the race. The basis of the show is that the winner gets the loser's car, so this IS a gamble. Of course, if we win, then somebody walks away with a 9 or 10 second drag car. Is that worth $25 to you?

B) I'm going to hit up all the forum sponsors for "freebies" to give away in the meantime, whether it's car parts, t-shirts, whatever... Depending on the number of "freebies", we can do weekly, bi-weekly, monthly drawings, whatever. If you win a "freebie", your ticket is still good for the main raffle, don't worry.

1000 tickets x $25 is $25,000. Because there are ONLY 1000 tickets, everyone has a damn good chance of winning the car or the money or whatever. It could be some kid in Idaho that only shells out $25, or it could be somebody who donates an $800 turbo.

C) Just so there's no funny business, we can have a BBQ or something where my 3 year old will pull the ticket. Pure luck of the draw, he can't be bribed, and he can't read to be able to pull my name.

I think there's enough people here who would step up to the plate to help us build a kick-*** car they might be able to own. You guys wanted to find a way to get something out of this, there it is. IF we win, we can do the same thing with their car: 1000 ticket raffle for it, and the money raised goes to a charity of the forums' choosing.

As far as "major" sponsorships go, I'd like to get one of the big-time performance engine builders here to cut us a good deal on a motor. I honestly don't think there is a single forum sponsor here who can eat a $5k engine, but maybe they can knock some money off. For that, they get their logo painted on the roof of the car or something. We can sell off space like they do on NASCAR cars. I know classicauto has offered up paint, which is totally bitchin', and I'm sure he will come up with something awesome for us. Provided we do get on the show, it's a ton of free advertising, so what do we have to lose?
