Nhra Announces Categories For Import Racers
NHRA ANNOUNCES CATEGORIES WITHIN LUCAS SERIES AND SUMMIT SERIES FOR INTERESTED SPORT COMPACT RACERS
Interested sport compact racers can continue to compete in this season in the
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA Summit Racing Series
GLENDORA, Calif. (July 17, 2008) – On the heels of yesterday’s disappointing announcement by NOPI Motorsports regarding the cancellation of the remainder of the NOPI Drag Racing Series season, NHRA has outlined the classes in which sport compact racers can compete in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA Summit Racing Series.
Sport compact racers in the Pro RWD, Pro FWD, Modified and Hot Rod classes can compete in the Competition Eliminator category as of now. All Motor racers can compete in the Super Stock category effective January 1, 2009. Both categories are part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the premier Sportsman series in drag racing. Drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series compete for national and divisional championships and select categories are showcased at NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events as well as divisional events around the country.
Racers who competed in the Sport FWD, Sport RWD and Street Stock class, can continue to race within the NHRA Summit Racing Series. The NHRA Summit Racing Series features a bracket racing format that allows drivers to compete on an equal basis against each other. NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals are conducted in each of NHRA's seven divisions with winners moving on to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship held in conjunction with the NHRA POWERade season closer in Pomona.
Both NHRA series are conducted at NHRA member tracks around the country. Sport compact competitors are encouraged to log on to http://www.nhra.com to obtain more information on upcoming races in their area.

I think might be a good move and it should have been done years ago... Take our guys to a track full of sponsors, have them see what we can do and that might jump start our sport in the right direction... Combined events will results in less overhead and more exposure for sport compacts..

our guys also get to run on a well prepared track and show off their skills to a different crowd and hopefully we convert a few V8 racers over to sport compact.. Pro stock is over flowing with cars, just imagine a few guys migrating over to Pro RWD... that would be sick. Hey it happened with the Scrantons & a some others a few years ago so it could happen again.. One of Australia's biggest Pro Stock racer's (Tony Wedlock) is now racing the ex Scranton Solara with a TRD V6-TT.. Once the 1000's of V8 fans get a glimse of what a properly tuned rotary or 4cyl could do, then they would have alot more respect for us and our sport would go places it has never gone before.. NHRA know's there's a huge potential for sport compacts, or else they would have never try merging it into their existing series.. I guess we will have to wait and see, but I hope it goes well
