What made you decide on that ECU? and are you keeping the stock crank sensors.

Just wondering cause I like trying different stuff and may try that ECU next.

thx

1. First off I am making the swap to a 440 universal Adaptronic ECU. Thanks to Elliot @ Turbo Parts and Accessories Much more options and No more wasted spark for me!

2. Also want to mention I am going to have Chris Ludwig with lms-efi.com build me a replacement harness to get rid of the old brittle stock one. The less I have to worry about bad connections and such.

3. TNT fuel starve elininator kit. No more running 12-15gallons of fuel. I think this will be a be hit for us drag racers running in tank pumps. http://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-cen...r-hpp-1041287/

The motor is going back together with the same ports as before, med-lrg streetport. RX8 E-shaft, ALS seals again, balanced, cleranced rotors and pinned or with studs. Still up in the air on e98 or q16. Might look into the flex sensor for adaptronic and see if both e85 for the street and e98 for the track is an option. Of course Ray Wilson will be tuning it again. We might try and run a s475 11 wheel on it to compare on the dyno per Addicted Performance.

More later:

I lot of nice parts going into this build, I cant wait to see the out come. I also picked up the s475 11blade, have you looked into the FEE trigger wheel kit?

Thumbs up

Nice Mike!
Lots of good stuff going on.
Your going to put a hurting on that stock drive train.

I picked up a 440 ECU for the first gen a couple months ago.
But I'm along way from firing her up.

Get on the Adaptronic forum if you haven't yet.
A lot of great info on it and Andy provide awesome customer assistance.

you going to upgrade the exhaust manifold, waste gate and maybe the turbo. manifold and waste gate was 100% holding you back. Your 700hp was just over 600hp onceyou put that thing in 3rd and 4th gear on the track. boost creep to me means more exhaust is being recirculated back through the motor taking away from hp.
just my two yen.

Hey Chuck, could you expand on your thoughts on the boost creep issue? I experiencing boost creep, and would like to have a better understanding of why.

I could be totally off base with this,
If the gate spring is 12psi and you cant run that boost there's a problem in the manifold design or waste gate size. When that happens the exhaust is not exiting the down pipe, it has to go some were, so it goes back through the motor. And your loosing power. Maybe the exhaust is not going back through the motor, it just bottle necks at the turbo. Either way the exhaust is not exiting the motor as is should and when that happens your not making power. If you can't poop you can't eat.... Having a large exhaust side ( wheel and waste gate together) is where the real power is at. It must be able to flow more then the front wheel. Some say going with a larger exhaust housing will re leave some back pressure. I'm not sure of this. It will help with spool but how can it out flow a small housing? exhaust still has to pass the gate and exhaust wheel to exit the motor.

Dyno and track testing is a different ball game.

The reason why I mentioned it in this tread is Mike said he had boost creep with his old turbo and new one. And if this is happening there may have been to much exhaust going back through his motor at 35psi. That hot exhaust in the combustion makes it easier for detonation to happen. I've been told and seen, the more power or more overlap a motor has the richer afr you have to run.

You should be able to install a 30psi spring in the gate and still run just 30psi. If it runs 33psi, there's a problem. Peak at 33 is ok as long as the boost falls to 30.

I only had creep down low. Once we went to 20+psi it held pretty solid.

? manifold and gate could not regulate the exhaust volume for 400hp but could regulate the exhaust volume for 700hp.
Reason it seemed like it was cause that was all the boost that the motor could see at a given time. If the exhaust can not exit the motor, boost reaches a limit and can not increase. IMO.

This is how I see things.
Your garden hose is 1/2 inch. nozzle has a opening of 1/8 inch. Turn faucet on half way. 1/8 nozzle is large enough to keep the pressure in the hose to a minimum. Now turn the faucet on all the way. now the nozzle can not flow enough water to keep the pressure in the hose below the faucet pressure. Put a nozzle that has a 1/2 opening on the garden hose, now pressure in hose is down but the volume of water increases.

rotor work

So I tried my hand at shaving the rotor faces down. Didnt take much, mainly took off the machined grooves. Still need to do the sides and corner area.

Nothing really. You just get a cleaner signal with an Hall sensor vs a VR sensor is all, both will do the job well.

So ended up sending the rotating assembly to balancing WIZ and I have it all back. Balanced and clearance. Great work!

Housings are at Goopy getting semi port work.

New turbo on the way.

Anybody know what options there are for a larger TB on a RE manifold? I am guessing I will need to have some welding done to make fit.

I was wondering what happened to your build.

Any pictures of balancing/clearancing work?

I could take some. Lee aka tearbo2. Inbreed posted some under his thread. It's the same thing except he did the light weight scalloping to his. Kinda wish I did also. I was looking at the pro jay typhoon intake but For my goals I think th cosmo semi conversion will be fine.
