Me and IFO 5-31-09

So out of bed at 4:30am for the 4 hour drive down to IFO Montgomery. I wanted to get there early as last year it took me over 1 hour to get thru the gates. This year it moved much faster so we had 2 hours to kill before round 1. First run of the trailer went great till 4th gear and the car started drifting towards the wall, got out of it to correct, back on it, of course back towards the wall so off the throttle again....Found the tire preasure was off by 2psi! Got to get a quality gauge..guage whatever its almost 24hours since Ihave slept.....

Car went
1.65
6.90
106.67
10.67
124.

I qualified 3rd and won the first quick 16 round elimination but still trying to figure why the paired me with top car on the next run (quick 8)?? As I had the 2nd fastest time in that round (10.9) Anyway, lost in 2nd round. Sucked to watch the final 4 run with only one car posting a quicker pass (9.8) but that car should not have been in the street class being 100% gutted, caged, lexan, none working lights, exhaust was about 3 feet long dumping out the fender...

I made 2 other runs during qualifying but none were clean. best mph was 132.

Had fun! Thats what counts....

Sounds like you could dip down in the low 10s if you got one good clean pass. 132mph is moving pretty damn good.

Definitely spend a few bucks and get a quality tire gauge. Preferably one that reads in 1/4 lb increments. I always make sure my tires are at identical pressures before each pass.

Congrats on making it to the 10s the first time out. You've got a lot left on the table. I see some low 10s in your future once you get it all sorted out.

white mitsubishi. superman logo on the hood. The guy that travels to all the IFO events. I personally like the guy and have nothing against him except he needs to run in the correct class. His 9.8 was the fastest import pass of the day. Kinda like me saying I am the UFC champ of the world but only fighting 1st graders..

They were fine. This was my 3rd time out on them. I do not see me changing my setup except for springs-struts and adding a 2-step..

Cool, do you get any wiggle on the big end? Does it shoot straight? I'm in need of some fronts, but i'm hesitant on spending what a real set costs.

He ran a 9.47 at KCIR and won it on the street class. I my rx2 was going to run him on the final round but my friend has some issue with his flywheel( turns out the key to the flywheel was cut half way). He brag how fast he was and told people that my friend is scare to run him in the final.

Thats funny... Last year at IFO in Steele AL. He was complaining to officials about 2 of the supras that were waxing his as with mid 9 passes. He was complaining that they did not meet track tech requirements for no cage and such. The other guys were like its a street car not a all out drag car like yours running the street class. Sounds like he steped his game up this year. If he comes back to IFO in Nov. I will be sure to bring Gary White back down. Not sure if you know Gary by name but he drives the Titian Scion pro car. He was going to come but had to go to PR with the old Titian copper supra for it last race before they retire it. He has a daily driver supra that goes easy 9's and should dip in the 8's. He is a real racer and hardly ever makes a full pass but just enough to get the win.

Did he try to do the burn out on the AWD? He did it in KCIR and it was really funny how he did it My friend(poncho) ran a 6.0 at 122mph at the 1/8miles at 30psi which is good for 9.2x on a 1/4miles, this is almost identical to his 9.23 run at 36psi. His car was running great and he was planning on boosting 40psi but the shaking flywheel stop it. I know the Eclipse needs to run 8.8 1/4 miles or better to beat poncho cause the eclipse has to load his auto tranny before launching if you let him stage first he'll bogged and cut a crappy 60'. At OKC IFO he waited too long to stage (try to load the tranny) and was disqualified.

That must have been what happened to him on the semi final run against the cobb GTR. The GTR came out of the hole way ahead and the eclipse had to play catch up and just sqeezed the win with a 10.7 or so... I wish I knew this before my run against him. He did the funny burn out also. He also was spraying the car this time. Earlier in the day he came by me in the pits and asked if I had a timing gun to use as he had timing issues.. I was like are you kiding me? What the hell is a timing gun...LOL....
