Is it Gay to run the oem spare's up front?

I just keep wondering if I am wasting money on these Billet specialties front runners I bought. Around $900 for wheels-tires-spacers-longer studs and lugs. I still need to grind the calipers a tad but keep wondering is this the right route. I have 2 spares I could just mount tires on and simply bolt on... I just hate the idea of motorcycle tires on there. Any one know if Ari ran this set up the complete time or did he finally change to real drag wheels?

Man ive got a black powder coated set of spares sitting in the garage with the m/h skinnie 16's on them but they wont even clear the fender wheels.
You can get motorcycle tires or the coker 16'' antique tires like the corvette guys use but there not speed rated.

I just got tired[j/k] and went with the race wheels and tires becouse they look kool and there speed rated. Even before Ari, Adam used them so do what you want but now that the pain is over i like the race set up!

If you want 2 black spares let me know!

I ran the spares but I only made one pass in them so I wouldnt know how reliable or safe they are. Ari switched over once he started going 9s not sure if it was a safety or cosmetic upgrade. Most motorcycle tires are rated for at least 130. Its the weight rating that bothers me. mine were rated at 660 lbs a tire. i think the front end of the FD is at least 1200lbs so that cant be too good.

I was contemplating the same thing but just bought the Weld Skinnies for the front, they are pretty cheap. It's the same ones that Dan Schector runs on his black FD.

I found them from a forum member with tires at a great price as well.

YES, TOTALY , nah just kidding. I would run them on my rx2 if they came in 4x110mm but they don't so I have to fork out the big bucks. I actually think they look pretty cool. I mean if it's not a show car that is.

You can get motorcycle tires with weight ratings up to the area of 1000 Lbs. (think* full-dress Honda Gold Wing). That should safely fit the needs of most rotary drag cars. And the rims themselves hold up just fine.
I keep a set of spares on the rack at home for the occasional pass at the strip.

most motorcycle tires with higher weight ratings are radials. You want a bias ply tire to match the slicks. If you look at motorcycle tires they are meant for leaning so the contact patch is curved.. car skinnies are flat more surface area. my car with the 135's on looks like the contact patch is the width of a quarter. trying to stop after 130mph takes much longer then usual. I would get 150's and they should fit no problem.

I'm looking for a set of tires to fit my OEM spares. I need something with an overall diameter of 24".

Anyone know where I could find a pair?

busted... dont wait on me as I have a set of spares in the garage already. I hears that CCW in FL has Firestone front runners in 16's. Gonna check in the morning. If true then I am going that route. If not I am grinding the calipers....

I personally know of them going high 140 mph but there not speed rated and some tracks will not allow them. Plus i think there ugly i mean there 1950's firestone for gods sake!

It is the cheap way to go front spares with stock 16's and et streets in the back. They will be just as fast as the $$$$ wheels!
