Front Tires?

What tires are you guys running up front? ET fronts? Sportsman? I was thinking of running the sportsman radials up front, just for the occasional times I drive her over to the track. I know going cheap is never an option but 151$ for a skinnie? Are their any other options?

Alot of 9 sec cars run the 165R15's. They came off old VW Beetles and work great. I ran them when I was running 10.70's.

I paid $32 each at the local tire shop.

I ran 3.5 wide wheels but they will fit 4 inch wide wheels.

Your not supposed to mix bias plys and radials. If you have bias ply slicks, you need bias ply front runners. It will make the car more stable on the big end. The two different tire constructions "fight" each other as you roll down the road.

IIRC you can only get these tires in a "H" speed rating. I searched long and hard for a DOT 22.5" tire and all i could come up with were motorcycle tires. I ended up going with MT ET fronts. SHHHHH don't tell anyone they are not DOT approved.

I've ran with and without matching ply tires. The "ET Street Shimmy" is always there...

Seriously, you're right. It probably makes for a more stable ride but plenty of people mix them because the effects aren't that much different. Atleast I can't tell much difference.

You're right, they aren't rated for pro-longed speeds. The reason why so many drag racers are able to use these is because we're only using them for short bursts and in a straight line. I would say 90% of the drag racers at my track use these for track use and street use. Mostly 10 sec guys and a few high 9 sec guys.
