Dog Box???
Guys, I am currently in the process of building a SRWD class car for the NHRA and was wondering if anyone has experience with upgrading the factory transmission. I really need to find a solution that is strong and won't need to be replaced after every 4-5 races. If you have any info on dog boxes for the FD or anything at all it would be greatly appreicated.
Links? pics? or anything
This will be going in a 700hp or so FD.
So far I am coming up empty with a search on here.

Not sure if your rules will allow but someone makes an adapter plate that enables an old school 4 speed to be bolted to the rotary. This would make it possible for you to run a Jerico transmission. With a Jerico high rpms are not a problem, you can't make enough power to hurt it, and cluchless upshifts are smooth as silk.

I had the PPG. Its a great tranny, but the problem is the gear ratio's. They're more for road racing applications. O.S. Gieken makes a gear set too, but the same problem with the funky gear ratio's. HKS and Greddy both make gear sets. Im not sure on their gear ratio's. Im sticking with the stocker. Just going to cryro some things. Hell you can get a stock tranny for $400 so if you go through a 4-5 a season, so be it!

The problem is I don't want to be pulling it out all the time to replace factory transmissions.
Ernie, what problems did you have with the PPG gear box and is there anyway to get around the funky gearing for drag racing?

Take the man's advice and give Liberity Transmissions a call.

The PPG was flawless. I loved it! The 1st gear was too long for me. A friend of mine bought it for his 20b which probably would suit it well. As Crispeed said, you may want to call Liberty. Hell, I might too! lol..

damn not for my broke *** that would take me a Bit to get that kind of gouda. I thought that the PPG was in the 3G range and you could ask for any specific ratio's that you wanted. I'm going to call on monday but thats still a day a wayy. I'm calling Liberty as well.
KEEP THIS ONE GOING THOUGH. THE MORE INFO THE BETTER.

If that was the case, everyone would have the gearset. As it was I was the first in the U.S. to get the PPG for the FD. And you can't get any other gear ratio other than what they already make and the price has risen to $9000

It cost me just under 500$ to have the 1-4 gears on my t-5 dog ringed by liberty a few years back. All they do is machine off the syncros, add on there bigger dog rings and change your sliders.

I am disappointed in ppg.
not due to quality as they do not lack that.
But due to the fact a set up consisting of billet input shaft, billet selectors and a dog gear set for my r32 gtr would work out to 9400.
But at the same time this is currently the most affordable new option. i can find cheaper full a/m boxes for less but parts are hard to come by.
I found a jerico 5 speed clutchless adapted to the atessa transfer case but 18000 is hard to justify. 10 is hard to justify.

Autos anyone?
Alot of small tire, big HP cars in Australia run 3speed mazda autos.. These trannys are found in rx2's so i don't see it being a problem in NHRA because its a OEM case. Since alot of workshops down under are using these autos with 600+ hp 13b's, 20b's & RB26/30 with great success, i figured it might be worth looking into.. My last Email from Keas Transmission in Oz said that these trannys are good for 800hp and most of their customers are 8second cars.. the price i was quoted for a fully built 3speed was $4500 USD shipped i think, that included their core, billet vavle body, transbrake, new custom converter & whatever other mods that was needed to be done.
maybe we can just get the parts from Australia and have a local trans shop do all the work, it might be cheaper... heres the link incase someone is interested
