Broke my rear end last night...

I finished my project last week and did some tuning and wanted to see what the car would do ~ 12 psi. So I went to the local strip and killed my car on the first run.

My car is:
BNR stage 3 twins (non-seq)
Reman engine, stock ports
550's 1600's
CWR IC
PFC
JIC Magic Flt A2's
Fighters Garage Trailing arms and toe links
Racing beat sway bars
Racing beat exhaust
DP
Straight mid pipe
18x9's with 275 35's on the rear.
HKS Twin power
ACT extreme 3 clutch
stock tranny and rear end
(redline oil in rear end and tranny)

a few more I'm sure I'm forgetting, but my afr's are in low 11's and high 10's boosting. Just a nice setup to go to deals gap and wear my recently finished product in...

My car itself has 160k on it. I'm assuming that this had something to do with the rear end going out.

I will post a video, but in short I didn't do a burnout, just kinda revved it up a bit (approx 4500-5k) and launched. The car squatted, the tires spun a few times and bang. It was dead.

I didn't feel any wheel hop.

anyway just wanted to know if you guys had any advice.

Thanks

Z

Do you have any pics of the failed parts? Did a worm gear shread or something? What kind of torque and hp is it putting down?

I bet that clutch contributed to the demise....

No, not yet. It's in my garage and will be until tomorrow before I can get it to the shop. I will take pics though.

HP and Torque is est 390 rwhp and 340 rwt (I'm guessing here based on mods)

As far as clutch, what do you mean? Too much?

What tires were you running? the clutch wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Drain the rear end and look for shavings, Whatever it was, it was its time, nothing to do with your setup.

Your biggest mistake is racing on street tires/drag radial. If you want to race with less chance of breaking something, you need some ETstreets. A street tire puts too much shock on the driveline. Very nice looking FD, btw...

LOL. yeah I was like wtf? I could hear the announcer as I was staging.

I had planned on going with drag radials as I like to drive on the road and don't take it out in the rain.

What tires would yall recommend?

Found a new diff (used) and will use that till I can get me something sturdier.

I have Toyo proxes T1R's. Rears are 275/35.

Mickey Thompson ET streets 26x10.5x16 on fit stock wheels. Drag radials arn't the best either.

You really don't like the M/T drag radials?
Man I heard nothing but good things from everyone outside the Rx7 world.

They are the ABSOLUTE worst. They stick like a slick with a stiff sidewall. I had them, trust me, stay away. Our cars are not strong enough to handle that combo. If you don't want to break parts, as ernie said, stay with the ET streets, they have a soft sidewall that wrinkle, that wrinkle absorbs the shock...

They're nice, but ETstreets are the best as the sidewall has the most flex. You want to have flex to absorb the shock of the launch. With the 7 as you found out, the stock IRS will break very easily on a street tire with any wheel hop at all or shock. Get yourself a kazz and 300m axels and some etstreets and you can go race all day! Good luck!

Busted7, I'll be running my car next weekend @ Virginia Motorsports Park for the NHRA event. Wish me luck!

ok I'll be saving up... cause I'd like to run it... more than once!

I'll just pick up some stock wheels for the rear.
