MD Back in the game....

Well guys I've been out of the drivers seat for almost 6 years...and the street car (as much fun as it is) just isnt scratching the itch anymore, so....now its time for some fun.

I have been fighting this urge for years but happened to be out to dinner with some friends near Cecil County dragway here in Maryland and the smell and sounds got me.

The goals are simple and well with in reach, mid to low 10's on independent rear suspension, stock transmission, using a 13BREW. I think the formula for the power range is well documented but the suspension is a different animal, so any input is appreciated. Also I think I may need a new engine builder as I can not get a hold of my previous preference so again some input would be great. I am a face to face person so it would have to be within a reasonable trip for building and tuning.

Looking good! Is this going to be strictly a drag car?

It will be tagged and drivable with full interior. From the outside it will looke like a normal 7 with a battery shut off rod...lol. As someone who has met a wall at the strip, however, I believe strongly in a full cage. So the inside will have an oem feel but with a cage and more than likely modded door panels to fit the cage. So yes its being built mainly to run at the track but that is more because I do have another 7 that I drive on the street. Besides if that one breaks I can let that sit for awhile and still have another car to tool around in and have fun.

yeah that adjustment kinda worries me...lol....this is going to be a slow build but ill keep this updated when I do work on it....I do have the other car to play with plus the woman so my time and money is split 3 ways...

So does anyone have input on suspension setups or a builder on the east coast of the U.S.

I know blitzboy runs the hks drag setup but its almost impossible to find anymore....

You already have the suspension you need. 10's are last year, set your goals on 9's! Get a good motor, supporting mods, nice turbo set up and a good tuner. Ray Wilson is in maryland.

im far from a fd expert but i hear a few guys around here mentioning a diff brace is needed and chuck in a fc centre , keep the weight as low as you can, use full slicks to make it easier to achieve your goals , big turbo , try e85 for a good cheap race fuel and i think youd be set

Sk8world- Actually I dont have a suspension at all...lol. The one on the car is pieced together to move it around. Thats why I'm in need of one and I'm not a fan of spending money twice. 9s are not put of the realm of desire. The car will be built with the intentions of getting there ecentually but having not raced in 6 years or so makes it really unrealistic. Who knows maybe I'll get a little lucky.
Ray has always been my tuner and my builder for almost 7 years, and I would love nothing more than to have him help on this project. Unfortunatley I have not been able to get a response from him in about 4 or 5months. I know he is under going some changes, none of which I know details, and sadly with out contact I have to look at other options. If anyone has a good reliable way to contact him I'd do it in a heartbeat. PM me if you do please.

Beefcake- the class I run in does have a minimum weight and requires drag radials so I have to be able to meet those requirements. I've built two 240 with rbs that have hit 10.5 on drag radials, so the tires dont worry me much.
Ray used to build a bad *** diff brace but again without being able to contact him, I'm looking at my options. As for the turbo...well i have a few BIG plans...lol. Not really, but theres pretty much a cook book power wise on these cars to reach the power numbers needed. And and endless number of turbo combinations...just look at the record list...lol.

Can you run et streets in the class? If you have to run true radials I would be looking into a solid rear. As far as suspension goes don't get to crazy. I have scene many combos on here and don't believe anyone has the perfect set up made yet. I run oem touring springs-struts on rear and have cut 1.36's. Ray is impossible to get a hold off. I called and emailed him last week and still no response. Maybe get Ernie to pass along a message. Must be nice to be that busy were you don't have to make call backs to customers!

I can run et streets..god help me if I couldn't...

I think there is more to Ray not getting back to people, Im trying not to pry into the situation. I have asked Ernie if he has heard from him, thats how I know partially why it is so hard to get a hold of Ray. Hopefully we'll hear from Ray soon......

actually after responding here i sent him a another email ....and he responded late last night...that makes me happy, i really want him to build this motor and tune it...hes never been anything but great to me and the results have always been excellent. id say just keep trying to get intouch with him. my problem is i dont like to bother people, im not the guy to call everyday to try and get in touch with someone. the next thing i know its a month or two lor three later...that happens with more than just my engine builders....lol
