NY ALS 3mm Apex seals, Pro's & Con's?...

Looking for experienced information on these seals. Is there a big difference with wear on the housings compared to the 2mm ALS seals? Can they handle more boost?..

Thanks..

I've never used the 3mm version of these. I doubt many have since it was not available for quite some time.

I was unaware they made them in 3mm and dont believe they do. I could be wrong as I rarely build anymore these days.

Either way, my stance on the 2mm version has been posted probably 20 times on this forum. Best steel seal on the market in my opinion. Bought an fd last week from a customer I built an engine for over 2 years ago. 13k miles on the engine, street port, with all the typical bolt-ons(full exhaust, PFC, IC,etc). Engine is still rock solid and pulls 430mmhg(17) at just below 900 rpms with a street port. Much easier on the housings than some other "unbreakable" seals.

I really cant see the need for them in 3mm as the 2mm are excellent.

Had mine in my 545 RWHP 13b for 2 years.
Done lots of 25+ PSI pulls with them and they are rock solid.
I have never heard anything negative about them.

2mm here, survived severe detonation on my engine, enough to crack front and rear irons. Only suffered very minor bowing of seals. Didnt realize they offered 3mm, but imagine they would only be useful for someone who already has 3mm rotors or out of spec slots. I had some minor scratching of housings after only a couple thousand KM's, but I am not convinced it was the seals.

I believe I did see them in 3mm and the cost was cheaper because the market for 2mm was higher. My rotors are 3mm already so the would be easiest for me. I've heard great things about ALS seals.

2MM ALS seals are the best steel seal on the market, bar none.

Where have you seen these seals for sale, or was it direct from Edgar? Last time I checked they didn't make 3mm ALS seals. Closest thing would be Goopy's 3mm seals

3mm seals are mainly used when the groves are beyond the 2mm specs

I spoke with Edgar this week, and he confirmed that ALS does not currently sell 3mm seals. They are working on them as we speak, and will be doing some testing with the hopes to release in the coming months.

Just to clarify...

Cuz there is no reason to use anything other than stock for 13b-msp. Stock is very durable and not expensive.

My point is, I am more worried about what the seals are doing to the rest of the engine during their life, not just if the seal "won't break". It's easy to make a seal that doesn't "break"...

IMHO, ASL is the best of both worlds.

ps. 37psi is low boost
