9 seconds on street tires?

Is it possible?

I am thinking of going with 345 mickey thompson ET Street Radial II

and if it is, how much power would it take on a 2700 lb car?

Is it an FC? If you plan on keeping it IRS you have a long and $$$$$ road in front of you.

And for the record i ran a 9.58 on a 12.5" E.T. street in a 2440 lb car with around 522HP. But i had the chassis to put it to the ground. After a certain point more power will actually hurt your times.

Anything's possible. There are guys on LS1Tech.com running into the 8s with tires comparable to that. However I am also talking about a purpose built car with an auto trans, high stall, solid rear end, twin turbo 400ci+ motor, very well set up suspension, etc.

If you just want a number for an RX-7 I would guess over 600rwhp. Keep in mind that there are probably guys making more than 700rwhp that are still in the 10s. On the flip side there are probably a few 500rwhp cars in the 9s. It takes alot more than power and a decent tire to get into the single digits.

Eric Cheatham (Viking War Hammer) is running 325 Mickey Radials I think. He hasn't finished the car yet but look for his thread in the first gen section.

I think you can easily do it with those tires if you don't break every part of your drivetrain on your launch. I had those tires and those they would replace my ET streets but they ended up breaking stuff. They don't flex on launching but they are sticky as hell.

Definitely possible with MT drag radials those are "street tires". need upwards of 650rwhp. going to need to cut at least a 1.6 or more power will be needed but then youll have traction issues after the 60 mark(like Allen mentioned). Im talking about just weaseling in at 9.99 lol. wont be easy and no room for mistakes on driving. a liberty tranny would help

in a 2700lb car only 600 is needed to go 9.99 but your 60 has to be a 1.5 or better. I think 22goinon2 summed it up.. alot more is needed to go 9s. and too many variables.

Ok, that is about what i expected.

my true goal is to achieve this on 93 octane, and those tires.

I plan on using a G-force T56 tranny with a better set of ratios. Driveshaft shop axles, and a reinforced diff.

I hear the stock suspension is actually great for the quarter mile, mabey i'll try that out.

I hate to be a nay sayer but thats not gonna happen! There are also much better transmissions for the same money as a T56. Is this car going to see much street use? As for the driveline, it's gonna take some work to get that kinda power to the ground without part brakeage.

well feel free to enlighten me on a better transmission choice for the money
It will be seeing lots of street use, and the 6 speed looks attractive for that reason.
with a 13bppt and a good water injection setup, i do believe its possible.

The T56 is a double overdrive so it's not going to help for drag racing. I would say a G-Force prepped T5 or a 4speed G-Force would work better. You can get the T5 with a .90 5th gear so it would be very close ratio. To get into the 9s on a stock driveline is going to be very hard and IF you manage to do it the driveline is not going to last long. For what you're wanting to do EVERYTHING would have to be perfect! Eric Chetam ran a 10.0X with 60X HP so it can be done but the fact that you want to do it on pump throws another hurdle into the picture. IIRC Eric's car was light (2400ish). I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. If you can in fact pull off a 9s pass on pump gas you will be a king among men

I hope It is possible. I mean, how cool would it be to be driving on the streets in street trim, and be able to do a 9 second quarter mile on the spot?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Ari's car (rx7.com) street legal and ran low 9's? Thought that was the fast street fd3s rx7 out there?
Think he's running around 6xx too....

Not Sure about Gforce tranny.. From what I recalled talking to him, he did 9's with the stock box

Yup just looked at an article from his site .

Look at • Turbo & High-Tech Performance Magazine – September 2000

here :http://rx7.com/news_archive.html.

Said he does 10.01 with Street Tires and then 9.62 with slicks.

That might not be a 9 on street tires but that's flipping close enough.

What makes it worst, is that he was doing that with 645whp. now I know you can't believe everything you see in mags, but it it true.....well DaMNNNNNNN. Thats impressive... to me at least

Ari ran a 9.3X on a stock mazda box modified by him. He then ran a best of a 9.1 on a G-force.

Yeah, it's not like Ari knows much about drag racing or anything anyways. You could easily shave off half a second just by double clutching.
