11.65 in tommys 20b. How can i improve?
Hey! I love drag racing and this is my 6th time on the track. What are some of the things you guys would recommend i practice to hone my skills watching this video?
I have my 2 rotor i can bang up on while im learning, but as most of you already know, its a totally different car from the clutch to the torquey 20b.
My 60ft is atrocious. I dont know what i dont know. How can i improve?
Specs on the car for those that arent from NJ lol
20b streetport
HUGE s480 turbo
14 PSI wastegate spring boost
275 MT ET Street radials
diff brace
kaaz rear
300m axles
rx7.com toe links.
stock trans lol i have spares just in case
triple disc clutch.
Tommy has been awesome helping me get my times down. I figured the forum would have some generic tips and tricks that i could practice to improve my 60 ft.

start with a diff brace and maybe add bracing to the PPF. warm up the tires more and perhaps drop the pressure a tad more.
launching is the hard part and just takes practice and little changes to get where you need in those sub 1.60 figures. not many people take an unfamiliar car with an unknown setup and lay out a good launch.

I'd probably say go with the clutch masters unit, much easier to change mAtch oriface sizes to match your combination, also should take away alot of driveline shock that killed countless tranny's in that beast.
Hang in there the seat time will help you more than you will know!

Get some "ET streets" bias-ply tires to get rid of wheel hop so you can launch harder and a much lower chance of breaking something. The radials don't have any give in the sidewall and create a lot of wheel hop. Use about 18psi to start and go down 1psi at a time to get optimal settings.
Also a Tilton flow control valve will help with the clutch engagement part to help be more consistent.

stiffen your motor and driveline up if you plan on spending time at the track. Your tranny looks like it was salsa dancing down there when the wheel hop kicked in... You get vibration when you stiffen up everything but having soft motor mounts and bushings lead to failure when you start launching at the track.

I was getting better at not dropping the clutch during that day, but its going to take practice. :-)
Those et street radials are awesome on the street, but everyone seems to be making the same recommendation to bias ply.
I really appreciate all of the input guys. I just dont know what i dont know about drag racing.
Its addicting.

I would agree with Bacon by softening the rear suspension. Let the springs do the work and not the strut. Looks like a 9sec when all said and done.....how much boost off the line?
practice, practice, practice is all I have to say.....

At the moment not much as I'm not using 2 step.
Tommy said I might snap the transmission with 2 step and the radials. Haha
If it wasn't so late in the season it would be fun to get the bias plys in and see the difference. But I'm going to keep practicing with the tips here and wait til next spring.

I personaly dropped .4 of a second by switching from Drag radials to bias slicks.
I set my rear coilovers to completely SOFT
Also, I slip the clutch/preload the suspension on the launch to help prevent breakage. So far my best 60 foot time has been a 1.5 with no 2 step..
My FD ran a personal best of 11.3 @ 121 mph with stock ports and a T70 dual BB turbo at 20 psi...
