Ok where do I plug the sensor that comes with the guage? Im buying a autometer water temp guage becuase the factory one caused me a motor, and before i buy it I want to make sure how to install it. Will have to tap hole in the thermostat housing?

personally i would do it in the back of the water pump. thats what i have heard numerous imes before upon asking so thats what i am going with.

 

This is where I put mine on my 91 TII. I had to notch the airpump braket some.

I dont have the unit yet. i went to seco yesterday and i thought there prices where a little high so Im waiting to find them a little cheaper.
Wankel7 I would email you but my email is down. sorry I have gotten back to this thread, I have been very busy lately.
So it really doesnt matter where I tape the hole? As long as water/coolent flows there, yes/no?

 

the onloy thing with the thermostat or upper radiator hose is that it only sees water after the thermostat is opened. so thats the onloy time it is accurate

 

so tap it in the back of the water pump?

 

I installed one because I didn't trust the factory gauge. SO, because I didn't want the factory unit, I installed the sender where the factory one was. Just below the oil pressure sender. It screwed straight in, with no mods. It works perfectly well, although it does read slightly different than my Microtech (which has it's sender in the thermostat housing).

This is on a S5 TII motor.
