What does it take to beat a LanEvo?
Do you think a FD w/ the basic mods: intake, exhaust, dp, and PFC will beat a LanEvo 8... Is there anyway a stock FD can beat one... I'm thinking only through going from a roll.

I hate these threads.
An FD with the mods you listed should beat a stock Evo from a roll without much of a problem. If you're going from a dig, you better be a hell of a drag racer.
A stock FD would have to be a strong one to hang even in a roll. No chance off the line.

i ran with and eventually passed my buddy's evo from a 20 mph roll running only 8 pounds of boost on an 85 degree day with a dp and pettit intake running poor man's non-seq and he has a vishnu exhaust and the factory sprayers for his intercooler (which imo are an awesome thing on a stock car). i think an fd with "basic mods" would walk an evo even from a stand still other than the first 60 feet. that awd is really tough to beat out of the hole.

i own an Evo8 now.. and use to have a 3rd gen.. My 3rd gen with DP & Intake was pretty close to the evo. (probably not from a launch though)
The evo should be good for ~13.2 in the 1/4 with a good drive ~13.5 with an average driver.. So the cars are close enough it really comes down to driver.

I own a 2000 Type R FD with the 280hp engine and i beat the hell out of an evo8 from stand although he was in front till 2nd gear. On 2nd i passed him and on 3rd i was in front more than 100meters. My car is still stock with only intake and cat back.

Well, the EVO over there has more power. And we never got an FD after 95.. And catback and intake is not stock

FWIW the US spec EVO 8 has 233 hp to the wheels and a whopping 255 lb-ft of tourque according to SCC.
A stock US fd would have a hard time beating that kind of grunt from a standing start esp with EVOs incredible grip. However a bolt on FD (around 280 or so whp) may be able to out gun one. FD's are around 2800 lbs and EVO's are 3263 lbs according to SCC.
Cheers,
Andrew

Take the EVO out to the highway, it's 4th gear tops at about 115-120mph.
For 1/4 mile, basic mods and a perfect lauch will be needed. That's if the EVO doesn't let off at the 1/8th mile when he sees the FD coming to pass him. If EVO owners are like many WRX owners, they will be too afraid of properly launching it so there goes their AWD advantage.

how many of you have actually driven an EVO?......I have, and its a pretty cool car...The launch is great but like a WRX it falls on its face .... and it would never beat a stock FD with the same driver and same conditions, but it will hang with one. The Evo feels like a GSX with a different body....In a nut shell thats what it is....
My friend bought one and spent 34k on it!!!!! ouch!

You'll beat an Evo with an FD in good condition. I beat one with a dp, catback, and clutch. The FD's high end will pull them in. Any type of setup including full intake/exhaust and fuel remapping will take them easily. Its not the horsepower figures on paper that matter there. Its the huge difference between the types of cars that will give it to you.

where? street? STRIP? TRACK
LET not count STREET RACE.( hate that stubid stuff). ON STRIP is pretty hard to bet EVO ( easy to drive due to 4WD and newer condion). on track is all come down to driver. I tested MY FC last sunday in WILLOW SPRING STREET. there were around 5 EVO there. Pretty much stock, mabe some mild upgarde. even thought we are runing different groupe. but from computer timing. MY FC was runing 1.39.5. and evo range from 1.42-1.37.
compare to RX7 EVO seen to be easy to drive fast
AFTER it all come down to DRIVER I think

i would think that with the larger turbo and the AWD the evo would bog off the line. the Fd should have a better launch with the sequential turbos or does that not sound right? last time i drove a wrx, the launch was not impressive, but it was not an sti though.

Well, lets take a look shall we???
Lancer Evo 8 dyno numbers have been around 233 at the wheels and it hit the scales at 3263 according to an above post. This means that every hp that the EVO puts out has 14.004 lbs to move.
The 3rd gen RX7 puts down 215rwhp and hits the scales at about 2800lbs stock, if you get a base its even less. This means that every hp that hits the ground in a 3rd gen has to move 13.023 lbs.
SOOOO, the bone stock power to weight ratio of a 3rd gen is better than a Evo8. If your racing from a kick and dont spin your tires along with shifting good and fast you should be able to take a Evo8. If your launching thats another story. Stock and with street tires and a good driver they are going to cut 60 foot times similar to a FD on slicks. The 60 foot means a LOT to the 1/4 mile time so its going to be hard to compete stock for stock with a Evo8 from a dead stop unless you have a LOT of room to chace him down.
Just run from a 45 kick in 2nd gear, you should take him with no probs.
