what does everyone in here do about tuning?

i cant get BDC or kahren to come to kentucky to tune my car because i cant find 3 other friends that need tuning... i've blown my FAIR SHARE of engines so i really dont want to try to tune my setup myself anymore. and i am a little too far from columbus to have jason tune it (i havent heard much about his tuning anyways)

what would you all suggest i do?

I'd get Steve Kan to tune your car if you really want to make some power.

NOBODY will work harder than BDC to get your car right in my experience. I have been to quite a tuning days, and BDC is top notch. Steve is another fine choice, I've used both. You'll find a million opinions, but if BDC will be anywhere near you, it's a no brainer IMHO. Carl

i have no clue what steve kan costs (doesnt list it on their site), i'm assuming its alot since i cant provide 3 other customers for him when he makes a trip...
as far as BDC, i'd definitely prefer him cause i've known him for a while, talked to him regularly about this type of stuff for years now, but i have a local car event the 14th of october, so i'd like to have my car tuned before the END of october... ie, the cincy thing wont work.
anybody have any more input on kan? how much?

Best to call each tuner for prices, but last time, Steve was 1350 plus lodging, and Brian was 250/per person, plus flight, and lodging, and will stay as many days as needed. This does not include dyno time.

Steve charges 350 per person and he needs 5 people to come. He'll also stay for as many days that are needed.

Steve is fluent with more ecu's than BDC. He's basically a genius. I had around 380rwhp before mine was tuned, Steve was able to get 533rwhp by the end of the day. Could have been more if my boost controller didn't crap out.

Tuning fuel is not hard guys, get a wideband, make sure it's accurate, set the map totally rich and then gradually work on one RPM range, gently subtracting fuel until you are at your desired ratio. As for timing, the famous Hitman map worked fine on a friend's TII that I tuned. Seriously, we had that badboy running 11.5:1 all across the boost board after three one hour backroad sessions.

Don't post BS or "questionable" RWHP dyno numbers as act. Someone might actually still believe you.

I live about two hours away from there. I need someone to tune my microtech soon, are there worthwhile big name (or just good) tuners that still work there?

It is when you are not expecting 3x the factory rated power output. Tuning any highly modified engine that is beyond doubling its factory horsepower rating is always going to be walking a tightrope.

Ah, cool. I always remember your old "fast cars break" avatar text, and it's painfully true much of the time.

Water injection man, take it from P51 mustang engine designers.

He is? He's fluent in more ECU's than me? How do you know?

That 533rwhp figure, as best as I understand it, is also based on a re-calculation going from one dyno type to another. That gross percentage re-calculation could be way off. In my opinion, you may want to consider posting the actual figures along with the type of dyno it was performed on.
