what do I do to get 160HP out of a 88 13b

can this be done without a major investment? I bought a car before I realized the 88 had less power than the 89+ .
now I want to get the 88 running at least that strong without breaking the bank under natural conditions , no blower or nos, or illegal mods. I need to drive it everyday and still be able to pass emmisions. I did all that years ago with my first 2 RX's and it was a pain. and it stunk and was loud....

can intake and exhaust mods do it?

need to know what to do.

Mike

Full exhaust and intake (and a tune-up) will have your car passed the 160bhp level.

Yeah, do a turbo back exhaust on a non-turbo car.

headers, full exhaust, intake, electric fan (some may laugh at this one but it helps considerably). basically all the bolt ons. haven't dyno'd the setup but these plus removal of power steering, a/c, and air pump on an 86 N/A keeps up with my FD without boost which dyno'd at 180whp

thanks for the reply but I am not about to remove the AC. I live in Louisiana and itm ay not be as hot as say Vegas but it is humid as hell so it is worse. Even with a convertable I will still want the AC sometimes....

yea, remove the a/c and power steering.

it's good for 1 rwhp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

come on.... the a/c isn't even turned on at full throttle. and p/s only draws power when you turn the wheel.

do exhaust and intake. if you feel like hacking stuff up, maybe do ram air. tb mod is a good one. an ignition box like a crane hi-6 on your leading side will be a notceable gain. bump your timing up 2-3 degrees and run premium gas.

that should get you well past the mark.

forgot--
note about the e-fan... i dont' recommend them usually, but if you do, it's best to upgrade your radiator to compensate for the loss of airflow at low vehicle speeds.

the mid 90's ford taurus e-fan is the best i've found yet. don't waste your money with the permacool finger chopper or black magic.

Im gunna say its pretty close to impossible to make it do 160rwhp.. and having it pass emmissions.... someones probably done it. My s5 puts 140 to the wheels, but its in need of a good tune up.

I wont laugh at you for this. Thats smart if you ask me. Anything you can do to get belts off the crankshaft will free up HP. Rotarys arent that much different than pistons. I got a nova with a 427(sorry not a yenko, i wish) and i take everything i could off the shaft because it frees up so much horsepower its sad and i almost feel like a criminal.
