man i'm on the same boat . Except that i'll be using a TO4B/T3 hybrid this is the only way that i can afford it for now. At least this method doesn't require the purchase of new manifolds, wastegates and such.

why not just get an isuzu intercooler from a box truck? that is what i did. works great, and is very cost effective. if you may be interested in one, just drop me a line. i can help you as i have a few.

I don't know why it would be a problem to run it with the stock intercooler. A standard turbo running at 10psi is going to create a hotter charge air than a T04 at 10psi. Therefore it would seem that an upgraded intercooler should be fine because you see lots of people running 10psi on the stock turbo & intercooler without any problems. That's the way I see it anyway.

You can get a turbo that's bigger than a T04B with the stock exhaust manifold.
I've got a T04E 56-trim on my car but the intake manifold had to be shaved a little to allow for the bigger 3" compressor inlet. Its good for 400+RWHP..
Also, the other poster is correct. The intake temperature charge will be cooler with the bigger turbo than the smaller one, so it will run good with the stock intercooler.
Cheers,

i had the standard IC and a TO4 for a while and it worked OK, that was at 14psi. the standard IC has good flow properties but will still be restricting the volume put out by the TO4.
I hooked up a IC water spray which i think helped. use the light washer bottle and some garden sprinklers.

I've measured a 2 psi drop running the stock intercooler with a TO4B turbo at only 10psi!. It was closer to 2.5 psi drop running at 12psi! With the earlier 23 row Isuzu truck intercooler I've measured only 1psi drop at 20 psi with a TO4B. The later 18 row, black, Isuzu truck intercoolers are the best ones!
