Tremecs are pretty strong, but a regular T5 is kinda so-so. Put a T56 in it

I remember crispeed saying a T2 transmission is stronger than a T-5. Also herd that the T-56 don't like to be shifted fast at high rpm's.

I need a tranny that can support 400-450rwhp, and be able be bang through the gears with ease. Im sick of having to granny shift at high rpms just so I dont miss a gear. What should I start looking at or who should I contact?

T2 as in 2nd gen turbo II tranny? If so does that bolt right in or do I need an adapter?

Thanks

Try Rohan from Guru Motorsports in Australia,
Another thread on dogboxes has heaps of information on a great gear set that goes inside your existing case. Yes I use one and love it.

Does a sequential shifter 'just' bolt on the top of a tranny or what?

Whats a matter with the stock tranny? It is suppose to be able to support over 600hp. As long as your synchros are in good shape you shouldn't have a hard time banging gears fast at high rpms.

A dogbox will decrease your shift times by heaps as well as designed to keep you in your correct power band at all times!!

And you cannot compare an aftermarket drag gearset to a standard one re realability, strength, performance etc etc

Some Drag racing, a lot of street racing and a few trips a year to the local road course.

Im just getting sick of grinding 2nd and missing 3rd, thats the only thing I really hate about my stock tranny. I even did a tranny swap and still the same thing. The shop claims my motor mounts are good so I dont know what else it could be.

If it's not the transmission then it's possible that you may have a clutch hydraulics problem. I had trouble getting into 2nd smoothly above 6-7K before I replaced my master cylinder.

The TII transmission is basically the same as an FD transmission internally.

Hmmm, well if everything is in good condition there shouldn't be any problems with grinding or missing gears with the stock tranny. It could be the clutch hydrolic system, like 13Bace stated. I guess there is always a possiblity that your new tranny has some synchro problems. My friend was having a hard time hitting 3rd in his fd, it kept grinding at high rpms, he finally missed it bad enough and blew out 5th and reverse. Funny thing was, when I drove it I never had a problem with 3rd gear grinding, but 4th grinded for me at high rpms. My tranny was rebuilt right before I bought the car and i've never had any problems slamming the hell out of gears at high rpms.

The dogbox that twister speaks of seems like a great setup, but i'm not so sure about its streetability. Having to rev match doesn't seem too friendly for cruising around.

If you have somebody pump the clutch pedal while you watch you MAY see a leak somewhere. If the clutch fluid is always dirty then you may have a leak. Sometimes you can't see a leak from the master cylinder.

replace them all. new master, slave and braided line. Sounds like you have a hydraulic problem to me. Do you start to feel pressure on your foot right at the top of your clutch pedal travel? You should... If it feels "spongy" for the first inch or two there is a leak, swelling of hose or air in the system. I'd just replace them all at once, can't hurt. Sounds like you already have invested a lot of time and $ to try to fix the prob, I woulden't skimp the hydraulic part of it. Personally thats the first thing I would have done. When ever I hop in a car and feel that "spongy" feeling I know the syncros are hatin it.

good luck
