Supra Gearbox in a FD

Hello,

I am a newbe in this forum. But it is great o lot of knowledge out there.
I have a question regarding the gearbox: Have anybody of you installed
or tried to install the supra gearbox from the MK4? Reason why im asking is: It is much more stronger than the Fd gearbox and can handle alot of more torque. Not to speak of its 6 gears!
I am from Germany and live near the manufacturer Getrag, and have some well known over there.
So I might be able to modivy a Supra gearbox that way that it would fit in our FD. As said have anyone of you tried this before?

Best regards Michael

CLR Motorsports in Miami has a Supra gearbox in an FD. He makes a bellhousing adapter and I'm assuming, everything else needed for the conversion. It's being used in a 20B conversion.

Supra Gearboxes are COMMON? Thats a surprise to me. I would have figured the T-56 would be more abundant, but I am in the USA, not in Germany.

The most common one used in Australia is the W-xx series W58 being the stongest out of the older supra celica's I believe. The next best thing is the R154 that came behind the 7mgte motors. That is a strong transmission and guys are pushing upwards of 500rwhp on that transmission. Still these are 5 speeds I haven't found anyone using the 6 speed from the 2jz motors on a rotary yet in Australia. I have been searching all the Austrailia sites trying to find adapter plates for the R154 transmission and when I finally found one they said they didn't deal overseas. Which is why I'm going with this transmission http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-5.asp but I'm pretty sure you can go with the T56 if you can get a adapter made for it.

1 or 2 guys have the HKS tranny here but they are very costly, plus u'll have to send the tranny back to HKS japan to rebuild if anything goes wrong with it because HKS usa have no training on these trannys...i've herd that it needs to be overhauled every 8-10K miles...

Curious - isnt the rev-limited top speed of a RX-7 in the 160s? (as far as mph goes)

Do you have a giant single and do top speed runs on the autobahn? LOL

In that case, why the hell does it matter? Long before 185 mph youd need an aero kit, springs, and a FIA license to do that with any amount of safety!

FD's 5th is .806

Supra's 6th is .793

How much top end do you really expect? You only really gain a gear between 2nd and 3rd...kinda.

1st: 3.827
2nd: 2.360
3rd: 1.685
4th: 1.312
5th: 1.000
6th: 0.793

1 - 3.483
2 - 2.015
3 - 1.391
4 - 1.000
5 - 0.806

Also, I was under the impression that the FD trannies are pretty damn strong.

you would on an s5 n/a .66 fifth gear, however you will never get 200mph worth of power through that gearbox.

the supra bx with a 3.9 rear end might be a nice set up for for high speed. almost the same low speed gears, then more up top.

thanks for the answers.
Yes me main aim is top speed but on the other hand i thinke the supragearbox is much more stiffer.
@ Batman: Your correct at 8000 rpm your around 300 kmh~ 185 mph according to speedometer. I drove it by my self would say it´s a littlebit fast.
on the otherhand as I told I live near getrag the manufacturer of the gearbox
they can do me a custome gearratio as i like
