Street/Race port
ok, if you guys have read my earlier posts, you can tell im new to the rx7-world, even though i have read every bit of info on the rotary engine available. so bare with me while i get my questions answered...
well, as you can see in my siggy, not only am i modding a domestic, im also modding an SUV. thats some double negative **** lol anyways, i was wondering if porting the rotary is equivilent to stroking a small block v8. because that's what it seems to be.
when actually porting, do they increase the size of the rotor housing or the block? or is porting just simply increasing the size of intake/exhaust ports? well, TIA

but, it is better than just a cam!!!
in most cases a good cam will somewhat affect your hp, but most power is gained from head work.
bec. of the simplicity of the rotary, 2 *holes* do the work of a cam, timing chain,lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, valves and the heads themselfs.
therfore i'd say a port on a roary is more like a cam AND head swap
it is very easy to achieve power, not cheap, but pretty simple in the grand scheme of things.
the problem with a rotary is everyone thinks you must be a genius to touch one. THEY make everything difficult.
its a similar phonemon to when your takin a test you tend to OVER think the problem!!

hey, thanks for all the info! and yeah, i KNOW how difficult it is working on a rotary. i F'd up at least 3 13b's! lol yes, i agree with you - people give rotarys almost NO credit. but that's why i've come to LOVE it! im debating over whether or not to buy a 3rd gen now, or save up and buy an 06 rx7...
and i cant decide on which i should do! all i know is if i get my hands on a 3rd gen, im not going to resist the temptation to tear it apart and start exploring! heheee first thing i wanna do, though is get some 9.4:1 rotors, and a nice t66 size turbo.
anyways, i want to know more info about the street port. how does it work and how does one do it? do you make new holes or do you increase the size of existing ones? man i have so much to learn! ROTARYS ROCK!
if only they'd have more torque, then i'd even swap one into my truck! lol

No man, don't change your rotors to higher compression if you are going to put such a big turbo. The existing 3rd gen rotors are perfect..maybe only to lighten them up.
Street port is the easiest you can do because you just enlarge the existing port..you make it go up and sometimes out a little bit. I don't even bother going into the oil seal track side of the port.
