Reading a report from Carquest (I don't know, either), it appears that silicone radiator hoses, i.e. Samco or other, are 15 times more water permeable than standard EPDM (rubber) hoses. Using these hoses in a regularly heat-cycled street car WILL result in water loss at a significat rate.

Anyone thinking of using silicone hoses for their radiator should consider this article: "New Technology Advances Cooling System Performance."

If you DO have silicone radiator hoses, check your coolant level!

 

look at the date on the article it over ten yrs old that sir is out of date i have had samco hoses on the drag car for over 8 yrs and have never had any coolant loses and none on my other four cars i have put them on, if your going to research things make sure your info is up to date

 

Just because information was discovered in the past doesn't make it irrelevant. The article is 10 years old, but the relevance isn't. Silcone hoses are still water permeable. Drag/race cars get maintained and prepped more often and differently than street cars. Do you have silicone hoses on a regularly driven street car?

well anyone who doesnt check the water on a regular basis is a moron anyway, lol 4 qts of water **** thats half empty, i do run silcone on two dd, very little if any water is add at oil changes and only throught the overflow bottle, level in radiator is always good, but my first response was more toward the fact that up-to-date info is more supportive in your post to other who may read it

 

I have them on my DD and no issues so far...
