Rotor Polishing

I'm curious if anyone here has polished their rotor faces? i've been thinking about this in regards to carbon build up prevention like they do with piston motors by polishing the comb. chamber dome on in a cylinder head. discuss

If you want to reduce carbon build up, ceramic coat the faces.

2 questions though... how much is ceramic coating? and would polishing the rotor faces be just as good? i know ceramic is supposed to help reduce heat as well am i right?

Yes, ceramic will help reduce the amouint of heat the rotor absorbs. It runs about $150-200 per rotor (depending on who does the coating).

I bought 3oz of water-based spray-on ceramic coating from www.techlinecoatings.com for $35. I plan to coat them myself. I have access to ovens for outgassing/baking and I plan to clean them well with some alcohol.

I would look locally there is probably a shop that does ceramic coatings near you, and you can probably get teh rotors done for $200 for two if you shop around.

But Polishing the rotors is good for carbon build up prevention. People have been doing it for years.

i chose to polish the rotors in the motor i'm building. it's still not together yet, but you can look at the results and decide for yourself.

my streetport 12A build

you may also want to search the engine building section at nopistons as well.

na, i did it. on those rotors, i ground down the combustion chamber and spent all afternoon with a graduated cylinder measuring the chamber volume. compression ended up being 9.49:1. if you don't got too deep, you probably won't have to do that.

i used a die grinder with sandpaper wheels to grind on the combustion chamber, and a finishing sander on the smooth part of the faces.
