1. He used the springs from RA.

2. His seals had numbers stamped on them.

3. We closed the motor yesterday with Atkins seals.

>>My friend just called and said he had low compression, so he decided to open the engine. He says his housing are scratched. We are going to my friends shop tomorrow to measure everything and take pics.<<

Any pics taken ??

Keep us informed on the Atkin seals as well.

The motor has been rebuilt with Atkins seals and running soooooooooooo smooth. He is returning the RA seals to Tracey for inspection.

The housing don't look as bad as it sounded on the phone, but you could see the little scratches.

Housings where brand new, and had 3k miles with the RA seals.

The centre of the housings looks darker.... Stack the seals, edge to edge and see if you can see daylight through them... Looks like warped seals to me..Max

I'm the unfortunate one that had to go through this.

Lining up the seals edge to edge show them to be warped in a concave manor. I had bought them late june or early july. Already being aware of the fault RA seal had I called called RWS and was assured that I had a set of the new batch.

I started to have a slight hot start problem around 2k miles and it progressively got worse until it was always the situation. Also on occasion I had trouble with cold starts.

Now runing atkins and so far so good.

Any follow up on this. I'm using RA seals now on my S5 motor with low mileage housings.

I've got 7k miles so far on RA seals with no problems.

as a matter of fact 2 days ago in the cold morning i didn't let the car warm up properly and got on the boost and the knock readings jumped 3x from my normal readings from the usual 40 - 120's!!!

I even heard the engine knock a few times before letting my foot off the pedal (kinda sounds like bolts loose in engine bouncing around).

And then I did the idle check, held my breath and gave out a big sigh of relief (we all know that feeling) when all the vacuum readings were nominal and idle purred like a ***** cat.

If you're hearing knock, something is wrong and I would check it out immediately. The engine shouldn't know just because it is cold.

Ihor,

I still haven't had it tuned by Steve Kan yet.

I removed the warm-up butterflies.
