removing power steering belt for track?
removing power steering belt for track?
Has anybody had any luck with this?? Is there much of a hp gain?? I had a friend that had taken his ps belt off a bone stock integra gsr and ran 14.6 in the1/4, with it he ran a 15. he had a intake on it also. How much did you improve in your times??
i disagree...p/s is on all the time, unless its diff. on a RX-7...which i doubt, its not like a/c, when it only takes engine power away when its on. If the motor is running, p/s pump is being turned therefore robbing engine of power. I've heard it taking up to 15% engine power....
You probably won't notice a large gain or anything, but there is a gain to be had. Remember that as long as the belt is connected it's using engine power, no matter what position the wheel is in. If there is no belt then the engine is free to do what it's made for instead of run something else. (not to sound spiteful scott, but it's true)
While dynoing my friend Scott's (AEturbo on here) car a few months ago we decided to answer this question once and for all as he had always removed his power steering belt at the track and believed it helped him. I didn't know for sure. After running 7 dyno runs and getting the A/F ratio tuned in and with every dyno run being within 3-4 rwhp of each other with the power steering belt off. He then put the belt on and ran one more time. The car lost almost 11 rwhp dropping from 285 down to 274. I couldn't believe it. He then ran once more with the belt off and it did 284. So I guess he was right after all.
