Random Tech Cat failure

Just a note to owners, and prospective buyers. I have a RT hi-flow DP set-up, that has seen around 5-8000 miles. The front brick has detached from the cannister, and is rattling around in there.causing to turn sideways inhibiting proper flow.
I called RT, and this is what they said.
'you have our old style with a ceramic brick that was prone to failure do to how they are assembled. We now use a metal brick and no longer have this problem. We would be happy to sell you a new style cat.'
Apparently the ceramic bricks are heated inside the cannister causing them to fuse to the walls of the cannister. Once that original fused joint is broken it cannot be repaired. What bugs me is the apparent indifference of the manufacturer to the failure. While they claim to have corrected the problem, I feel that their indifference is unacceptable, and I suggest one thinks about all their options before doing business with this company in the future.
In fairness to RT here are the facts.
1. Although I have had the unit ~4 years, it has only seen ~5-8000 miles as I use it infrequently.
2. I welded a bung (WBO2) to the cannister in front of the brick (well away).
3. There is no physical damage to the DP.
I feel that RT shows little regard for their customers when they dismiss failures so easily. I will be finding out shortly how this effects the smog performance of the unit, I will post the results.

Perhaps somebody connected to the company will read this post, and 'bend their ear' a bit.

note this is on a MKIV Supra

actually a lot of cats 'fail' in that way, miata's and fords seem to do it a lot. it 'should' still function, ie pass smog, but you never know.

id be pissed if it didnt pass!
